As much as it has been gut wrenching to see our ante-post selections Indiana hit the floor, hard, there have been a number of inspirational franchise pick-ups in the second half of the season.
Thank goodness the Pacers have bagged us their division before their recent blow out! Brooklyn are one of those success stories since the turn of the year and no team has managed to live with them on home court at the Barclays Center, so much so that tonight they will be gearing up for a record 14th successive home call, but this time it’s serious stuff as the Rockets come to the Big Apple.
The Nets are three games off Chicago for the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, but more of a concern will be the fact that Washington are breathing down their necks a game away and arguably have the easier run in for the regular season.
After their defeat to the Clippers at the weekend there seems little chance of Houston catching those rivals for the third seeding way out West, but they need to keep Portland at bay so a win here is essential with the Trail Blazers up against the hapless Lakers tonight as well.
In the reverse match-up in the first half of the season, the Rockets piled into the Nets and dominated possession of the ball to run out 114-95 winners and although the difference won’t be that big tonight I fancy a 2-0 match-up.
As always Houston will rely on the brilliance of James Harden and with Garnett and Kirilenko out of action the best way to make money here is to side with the Rockets and their power offensive game to finally derail the closing down court style of the Nets so take the odds-against now.
