Saturday NBA Best Bets
Philadelphia 76ers vs Denver Nuggets
(20.00, Saturday)
After eight games the Philadelphia 76ers have the best record across the NBA after their 7-1 start. The Sixers recruited well in the offseason, with the acquisition of Seth Curry looking a particularly shrewd move, and despite their impressive start there looks to be room for further improvement.
Philly are in action on Thursday night when they travel to a key Eastern Conference rival in Brooklyn Nets and on Saturday they will get to test themselves against one of the best in the West in Denver Nuggets.
Denver don't necessarily have any out-and-out stars but as a team they are greater than the sum of their parts. Previously, the Sixers have been accused of being overly reliant on Joel Embiid and, to a lesser extent, Ben Simmons but this season under the guidance of Doc Rivers there appears to be greater cohesion and this game against the Nuggets could be a good marker to show how far they have come in a fairly short space of time.
We fancy Philalelphia to claim the win in this one and if the point spread is set at around -5 points they could beat that handicap too, as they are unbeaten at home after five games and only once have they failed to win by at least six points. The Sixers look real contenders for the Championship this season and may well emerge at the top of the pile in the East, despite the presence of the Milwaukee Bucks and a Nets team who are likely to improve as the season progresses.
Saturday NBA Prediction
Charlotte Hornets vs Atlanta Hawks
(00:00 Sunday)
Charlotte Hornets to win - BET NOW
Atlanta Hawks made a 4-1 start to the season but are now 4-4 after three successive defeats and they could well be set for another loss at Charlotte on Saturday.
The Hornets won 102-94 in Atlanta on Wednesday and with home court advantage at the weekend look excellent value to complete a double over the Hawks.
Charlotte have one win and two defeats from three home games so far but their one victory did come against the Nets and they were thoroughly dominant in the midweek meeting with the Hawks.
Atlanta have a few injury concerns with offseason recruits Rajon Rondo and Kris Dunn among five absentees, and with the Hawks stretched this looks like a good opportunity for Charlotte to claim a win over their Southeast Division rivals at a big price.
Portland Trail Blazers vs Sacramento Kings
(03:00 Sunday)
Portland Trail Blazers have endured a rocky start to the season with a 3-4 record after seven games but they have a chance to put a run together with some winnable games to come. On Saturday they travel to Sacramento Kings and will hope to have a winning record overall by then.
Despite their mixed start, Portland are a strong outfit and with Damian Lillard on their roster they could mount a serious Championship bid this season - and they should have too much quality for the Kings at the weekend.
