Mikey Garcia and Jessie Vargas meet in a high-quality welterweight match-up in Frisco, Texas, on Saturday night.

Mikey Garcia vs Jessie Vargas Preview

Garcia is a former four-weight world title holder and goes into this clash seeking to bounce back from his only defeat so far. The 32-year-old jumped up two weight classes to challenge the much bigger welterweight world titleholder Errol Spence Jr. and suffered a unanimous decision loss where he failed to win a single round on all three fight scorecards.

"It's the biggest challenge for me, coming back after a long layoff, my last performance - horrible performance. I lost my fight," said Garcia in December shortly after his meeting with Vargas had been confirmed. "There's a lot of questions. So I want to be able to answer those questions with this kind of fight. That's why we agreed on fighting Jessie Vargas. He's gonna get the best out of me, and I think I will bring the best out of him."

Vargas, 30, is a former two-division title holder and like Garcia is trying to reignite his career after some disappointing results. The 30-year-old has only won three of his last seven fights, having drawn with Adrien Broner and Thomas Dulorme and suffered losses at the hands of Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley - his only defeats so far.

Vargas has a record of 29(11 KOs)-2-2 and Garcia's reads 39(30 KOs)-1.

Garcia to win - 1/5 - BET NOW

Garcia may have lost out in a one-sided contest with Spence Jr. in his last outing but this showdown with Vargas offers a chance to bounce back in style.  In his last fight, the old adage of 'a good big man always beats a good little man' came true as he just couldn't find a way through and got picked off by Spence Jr's whenever he did try and force an opening.

Vargas does have a few physical advantages but he probably needs a stoppage to win as Garcia is technically the superior boxer.

Considering Garcia has never lost inside the distance, despite being dominated over 12 rounds by Spence Jr., that looks a huge ask for the 'Pride of Las Vegas'.

Garcia does boast an impressive KO record with 30 of his 39 wins coming without the need of the judges but Vargas has also never been stopped. With that in mind, it is worth checking out the full Mikey Garcia vs Jessie Vargas boxing odds when they are released later in the week and backing the California-born star to claim a points victory.
