England v Australia: 1st One-Day International Tips

- 10:06, 11th June 2018
England's Jonny Bairstow celebrates.

It’s only been five months since England and Australia last met in a one-day international, but the old rivals prepare to go toe-to-toe again this Wednesday.

The Oval is the venue for the first of five ODIs and, as ever, there is likely to be fireworks with bat and ball in front of a packed crowd.

Match Result England to win @ 3/5 - BET NOW

After a humiliating defeat to Scotland at the weekend, England need a reaction and they won't need any extra incentive than facing the Aussies on home soil.

Generally, England’s ODI form has been excellent of late, with Eoin Morgan’s men having won seven of their 11 ODI games in 2018. If you consider the stats in the last year it’s even better, as England have won 22 of their last 28 one-day matches.

Those punters eyeing the cricket betting should also note that the home side have lost just one of their last six 50-over matches at the Oval – a narrow 13-run defeat to New Zealand in 2015.

Australia arrive on British shores with an inexperienced team, following the fall-out to the ball-tampering scandal – which has led to bans for Steve Smith and David Warner.

Top England batsman Jonny Bairstow @ 10/3 - BET NOW

It’s fair to say Jonny Bairstow is seeing it like a beach ball at the moment, with his 105 against Scotland making it three ODI centuries on the spin.

The Yorkshireman is 10/3 in the cricket betting to be England’s top batsman and that looks a tempting price, given his recent form.

Jos Buttler was rested against Scotland and is expected to return to the side to keep wicket against Australia. The 27-year-old scored an unbeaten 80 in the recent Test match with Pakistan and an ODI century in Australia earlier this year makes 5/1 a tempting price for him to be England’s top run-scorer.

Top Australia Batsman Aaron Finch @ 3/1 - BET NOW

The top of the order will need to perform for the tourists to stand a chance of winning the series and Aaron Finch will be a key figure.

Australia’s vice-captain – who scored 78 off 97 balls in the warm-up win over Sussex - is one of the few experienced men in their squad and is someone who has played in English conditions before, having enjoyed a limited-overs spell at Yorkshire.
