New Zealand will host England in the second test match of a two-match series beginning this week. England won the first test of the series by an incredible 267 runs.

England rolled to victory over New Zealand to win the first test in Mount Maunganui. James Anderson was one of the stars for England as he took four wickets on the final afternoon. Stuart Broad was also one of England’s shining lights. Now, England are preparing for the final test in Wellington on Friday.

The second test will be played at Basin Reserve in Wellington. Play will start at 11 AM local time on Friday, February 24. Fans in the United Kingdom can watch the action starting at 10 PM GMT on Thursday, February 23.

England are in fantastic form going into the match on Friday. It has been over a year since New Zealand last won a test cricket match. Can the Kiwis get a big victory over England and save face after humiliation in the first test?

New Zealand vs. England Second Test Match Team News

England’s squad for the second test is unchanged, as there were no changes made to the travelling party. The team has also reported no new injuries. The same squad will be ready to take on New Zealand and complete the series sweep.

The news isn’t as good for New Zealand. Kyle Jamieson was ruled out of the two-match test series before the first test. He will spend the next three to four months out of action due to a recurrence of a lower back stress fracture.

New Zealand did receive some good news ahead of the second test match. Matt Henry will be available for selection after missing the first test due to family reasons.

New Zealand vs England Second Test Betting Odds

England were unstoppable in the opening test match. They continued their impressive form, which saw them play well during the English summer and on the trip to Pakistan. England picked up a 267-run win on the fourth day of the test, as they bowled New Zealand out for just 126 runs in the second innings.

Brendon McCullum has led England to 10 wins from 11 matches. The team is in fine form, and it will take some doing from New Zealand to stop them in test No 2.

New Zealand last won a test cricket match in February 2022. Yes, it has been 12 months since the Kiwis picked up a test win. New Zealand are struggling in test cricket. Just five of their last 16 test matches ended as wins. The team will hope Wellington’s Basin Reserve can provide the cure to their problems. New Zealand must find a way to cool off the English bats.

England go into the second test series as the favourite at odds of 23/20. England’s form makes them a clear favourite, in addition to their big win in the first test. New Zealand are 21/10 to win the test. Only five of their last 16 test series ended as wins. Form is not on New Zealand’s side going into Friday. Bookmakers have the rival teams at odds of 14/5 to draw.

New Zealand vs England H2H

New Zealand and England have a long history in test cricket. The teams have met 111 times previously, with England winning the majority of the matches. England have a record of 52W-47D-12L against New Zealand all-time.

Nineteen of England’s 52 wins versus New Zealand were away from home. The English know how to win against the Kiwis in New Zealand, as they showed in the first test match. New Zealand have won six of their test meetings with England on home soil.

New Zealand vs England Key Players

James Anderson finished off New Zealand on day No 4 of the first test with four wickets. Anderson is in form heading into Friday’s match and is 15/4 to finish as the top bowler. Meanwhile, teammate Stuart Broad is 9/2 to finish as the top bowler.

Daryl Mitchell and Neil Wagner tried to hold off England in the first test but couldn’t stop the English from winning. Wagner is 500/1 to be the top batter, making him a long shot. Mitchell is at odds of 16/1, which stand to reason he is more likely to finish as the top batter.

New Zealand vs England Betting Tips

It is difficult to believe New Zealand can defeat England in the second test series. England's first test win was emphatic, as they cruised to a win by 267 runs.

The weather could play a factor on Friday when play starts. Wellington has seen plenty of wind and rain, and it is likely to continue throughout the second test. However, the weather could improve by the time day No 4 begins.

England should win the second test. New Zealand have won a mere five of the last 16 test series dating back to 2021. Add in England’s all-time head-to-head record superiority and the 267-run win in the first test, as this looks like another victory for the English.
