Sri Lanka vs England 2nd Test Betting Tips

    logo

Having won the first Test with a certain degree of comfort, England will be eager to wrap up a series victory when the final game of a two-match series starts in Galle on Friday.

The fact that the same venue hosts the second Test should help the Three Lions when it comes to how to approach the game, with head coach Chris Silverwood hinting at rotations amongst the seam bowling attack, while the spin duo of Dom Bess and Jack Leach will surely continue after impressing last time out.

With a seven-wicket win in Galle already underneath their belts, the tourists will be full of confidence for the rematch with the Islanders, who have now lost their last four home Tests against England.

A 3-0 series whitewash was the outcome in 2018/19 and the omens seem to be pointing towards another England clean sweep, with the visitors 23/20 to claim victory in the second Test.

The weather may intervene at some point and could play a significant role in the final outcome, with the draw available at 4/1, while the home side can be backed at 7/4 to bounce back with a win which would ensure the series honours are shared.

Sri Lanka vs England Team News

Going into the opening Test in Sri Lanka, England had a number of positions seemingly up for grabs, but the match saw those handed the responsibilities step up to the mark.

Jonny Bairstow made the most of a recall to impress at number three, while debutant Dan Lawrence looked assured at the highest level as he made 73 and 21 not out in the triumph in Galle.

The performances of that pair all but locked up the top six for the second Test, but Silverwood has dropped a major hint that Olly Stone may be given an opportunity, perhaps as the express pace option in place of Mark Wood.

James Anderson and Chris Woakes are also waiting to see if they return after sitting out the series opener, with Stuart Broad and/or Sam Curran rested with one eye cast ahead to the upcoming series in India.

Skipper Joe Root was the guiding light for the side in the first test victory, ending a lengthy wait to reach three figures by doing so in some style, going on to make 228 in the first innings, a knock which was a massive difference between the two teams overall.

However, Bairstow also shone on his return to the Test arena and while knocks of 47 and 35 not out were not overly substantial, they played a significant role in steadying the England ship after the loss of early wickets in both innings.

This might be the final opportunity Bairstow has to become a Test regular once again and he certainly looks determined to make the most of it, meaning at 4/1 to be top England first innings batsman he has plenty of merit.

Joe Root - Man of the Match - BET NOW

Captain Root certainly led from the front when the series opener went the way of the Three Lions and there is little reason to suggest that he will not once again be a key figure.

Prior to the series starting the Yorkshireman made it clear that the next year or so could be a defining period in his career, with tours of India and Australia on the schedule.

He made it known that he wished to make his mark both as skipper and batsman and he made a perfect start to that quest in Galle.

At 6/1 to be Man of the Match, he still offers some value, especially when you consider that he averages in excess of 57 in his four previous Test appearances in Sri Lanka.
