The 2021 edition of the Premier League kicked off at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes last night where only Nathan Aspinall recorded a win, beating defending champion Glen Durrant 7-3 in the opening contest.
Remarkably, the final four matches all resulted in 6-6 draws, which leaves the Asp topping the table in the early stages of the ten-man event.
Night Two promises another quintet of tightly contested tungsten tussles where arguably the pick comes in the fourth match of the evening, where two former PDC world champions face off in the shape of Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright.
Michael van Gerwen vs Peter Wright Betting Odds
Van Gerwen is one of the most decorated players to have ever stepped onto the oche and the Dutchman, a three-time PDC world champion and five-time Premier League winner, is no bigger than 23/20 to get his first win of the 2021 tournament.
Premier League glory has eluded Wright - Snakebite was beaten by MvG in the 2017 final - but he'll fancy his chances this evening and can be supported at 19/10. Draws were the theme on Night One and a stalemate is 7/2.
Michael van Gerwen vs Peter Wright H2H
These two are familiar foes and, in addition to the 2017 Premier League final, they have locked horns on a number of the biggest stages over the years. Van Gerwen has largely held sway in major events but Wright did manage to gain his revenge when claiming the 2020 World Championship at the expense of the Dutchman.
The pair have clashed five times since and, while Van Gerwen won the first three meetings, Wright trounced him 8-1 on Night 13 of the 2020 Premier League and also won when they last met in a floor event in September 2020.
Michael van Gerwen vs Peter Wright Prediction
Peter Wright to win - BET NOW
Peter Wright spurned a winning opportunity against Jonny Clayton on Night One but he averaged in excess of 100 against the Ferret and was rock-solid on his doubles, going a perfect six for six to secure a point.
A similarly clinical display would make him difficult to beat and, given his success against MvG on this stage last year, there is every chance that the underdog takes the honours.
Van Gerwen scored heavily in a 6-6 draw with Dimitri van den Bergh in his opener but the Dutchman wasn't nearly as prolific when it came to checking out and Wright will be ready to punish any mistakes.
Snakebite's last appearance in Milton Keynes saw him claim a Players Championship floor event, where he hammered world champion Gerwyn Price 8-3 in the final having seen off Joe Cullen 7-2 in the semi-finals. He is playing with confidence.
Under 5.5 180s - BET NOW
While both men are capable of heavy scoring, backing under 5.5 180s could prove a decent bet.
Van Gerwen, in particular, can pepper the treble 20 bed but the Dutchman threw just two maximums against Van den Bergh in his opener and he has been more willing to switch in recent months.
Wright, meanwhile, posted just one 180 against Clayton, instead hammering home a high number of 140s, which tends to be his MO.
