There are expectations that Everton manager Frank Lampard will be sacked if the Toffees do not defeat Southampton on Saturday at Goodison Park. Leading bookmakers have Lampard as the odds-on favourite to be the next manager sacked by a Premier League team.

Southampton are in last place in the Premier League ahead of their trip to Merseyside. However, under-fire manager Nathan Jones has led the Saints to back-to-back wins. Unfortunately for Southampton, the wins came in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup respectively.

On Wednesday night, the Saints defeated Manchester City in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals 2-0 with their best display of the season. Jones will hope the team can build off of back-to-back cup wins.

Everton went to St Mary’s in October and won the reverse fixture 2-1. Southampton’s Joe Aribo scored the opener on 49 minutes but Everton’s Conor Coady scored three minutes later to equalise. Dwight McNeil put Everton in front with the winning goal on 54 minutes.

Sportsbooks’ best betting odds on Everton winning at full-time are 5/4. Southampton are at odds of 23/10 to win, while a draw is at the best betting odds of 9/4. Let’s explore some ideas for a bet builder for the Premier League fixture.

Saturday’s game at Goodison is a six-point relegation battle between two teams headed toward the Championship. Everton have been on a decline for years and are headed toward the drop.

Southampton may not have the best manager or squad in the Premier League. However, back-to-back cup wins could be the catalyst for at least a win on Saturday. The Saints were fantastic against Manchester City and even kept Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne quiet in the second half.

Southampton won three of their last eight games in all competitions against Everton. The Toffees picked up four wins from the last eight versus Southampton. Neither team is playing well in the league, but those cup wins could be the difference for Southampton.

It is worth noting that Everton supporters will have a sit-in protest on Saturday. It could affect the way the team plays. Lampard has failed to win his last eight games in charge of Everton. Six of those games were defeats. Our betting tips prediction is for Southampton to win at Goodison Park.

Total Cards: Over 1.5 cards

odds

Everton averaged 2.28 cards per game in their opening 18 matches. Southampton averaged 1.56 cards a match in their opening 18 games. As the match becomes frantic towards the end; cards should be shown.

Southampton are coming off back-to-back cup wins. Wednesday’s victory over Manchester City could be the catalyst for Nathan Jones steering Southampton clear of the relegation zone.

It is no secret Southampton have a weak squad. It is perhaps the weakest in the league, with Everton’s being not much better. Jones is a better manager despite the criticism he often receives.
