The Confederations Cup is an eight team tournament between the countries that win their respective regional championships (such as Portugal for winning Euro 2016) as well as the World Cup winners and the country next due to host the World Cup. The Russian federation will use this tournament as a rehearsal for their World Cup 2018 preparations, ahead of them hosting that.
There are two groups of four, with the top two of each reaching the semi-final knockout stages before playing out the final between the victors. The tournament will be played in Russia from 17 June – 2 July 2017.
Hosts – Russia.
2016 World Cup Winners – Germany.
EURO 2016 Winners – Portugal.
Copa America 2016 Winners – Chile.
Gold Cup 2015 Winners – Mexico.
Africa Cup of Nations 2017 Winners – Cameroon.
Asian Cup 2015 Winners – Australia.
OFC Nations Cup 2016 Winners – New Zealand.
The favourites to win the Confederations Cup this year are Germany. The World Cup winners have been installed as the 15/8 best price favourites. Joachim Loew’s side have never won this competition before, their best effort being a third placed finish back in 2005 when they hosted the tournament.
Behind them in the betting market are Portugal, who are available with Confederations Cup odds of 4/1. That seems a big price for a country that is winning competitions left, right and centre at the moment! Eurovision, anyone?
You can view all eight sides’ current prices by heading to the outright winner market.
