Morocco and Portugal will play on Friday at 3:00 PM UK time in the Al Thumama Stadium in the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals. The winner of Friday’s clash will face the winner of England versus France in the final four of the tournament.

Morocco reached the quarterfinals thanks to a penalty shootout win against Spain. The Atlas Lions battled hard for a nil-nil draw after 120 minutes of football and goalkeeper Bono made two saves to stop La Roja in the shootout to win 3-0.

Portugal thrashed Switzerland in the round of 16 by a score of 6-1. Cristiano Ronaldo was benched by coach Fernando Santos and his replacement, Goncalo Ramos, scored a hat-trick. Portugal are scoring goals in the World Cup, while Morocco have relied on their defence to reach the last eight.

Sportsbooks’ best betting odds on Morocco winning at full-time are 19/4. Portugal are at odds of 4/6 to win, while a draw is at the best betting odds of 13/5. Let’s explore some ideas for a bet builder for the World Cup fixture.

Full-time result: Portugal to win

Portugal have an embarrassment of riches and we aren’t even counting Cristiano Ronaldo. Santos is unlikely to start the former Man United player after Goncalo Ramos’ three-goal performance against Switzerland.

Morocco will come to defend, something they have done well in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Atlas Lions kept three clean sheets from four games in the tournament. A nil-nil draw with Croatia (who will play Brazil in the quarterfinals) was followed by a 2-0 win over Belgium. A 4-1 victory over Canada helped the team win Group F before drawing nil-nil against Spain in the round of 16.

Portugal defeated Ghana 3-2 to open the tournament before topping Uruguay 2-0. A shock 2-1 loss to South Korea ended the group stage before Portugal exploded for six goals against the Swiss.

Morocco overachieved in the group stage with an xGA of 2.8 and a real goal total of 1.0. Yes, Morocco have played well but trying to get a second straight nil-nil draw or a low-scoring win won’t happen against Portugal. Our betting tips prediction is for Portugal to win.

Both teams to score in the first half: NO

Three of Morocco’s four games in the 2022 FIFA World Cup went into halftime with both teams not scoring goals. Their only game to finish the first half with goals was against Canada. Morocco scored an own goal in the first half, allowing Canada to get onto the scoresheet.

Portugal also had three of their four games in the 2022 FIFA World Cup go into the halftime break with both teams not scoring goals. The World Cup saw 54% of its matches after the round of 16 end with both teams not scoring. The fixture increases dramatically when only considering the first half of fixtures.

Morocco have some excellent players. Yet, the team has not put away its chances. Morocco had goalscoring chances against Spain, which would have prevented extra time, but the team couldn’t put the ball into the back of the net.

Our betting tips prediction is for both teams not to score in the first half. It should be a low-scoring start to the game.

Goals – Odds/Evens: Odds number of goals

Three of Portugal’s games in the 2022 FIFA World Cup ended with an odd number of goals. The Portuguese defeated Ghana 3-2, lost to South Korea 2-1 and beat Switzerland 6-1. Their only game not to end with an odd total of goals was a 2-0 win versus Uruguay.

Morocco will aim to keep this game low scoring. As long as the Atlas Lions keep the game low scoring, they have a chance of winning or coming back to force extra time.

One of Morocco’s three World Cup matches ended with an odd total of goals. A nil-nil draw against Croatia was followed by a 2-0 win over Belgium. A 2-1 win versus Canada rounded out the group stage before a nil-nil draw with Spain in the last 16.

Our betting tips prediction is for an odd total of goals between Morocco and Portugal.

Total goals in the first half: Over 0.5 goals

Portugal came out of the gates ready to play against Switzerland. In the days after losing to Portugal 6-1, Swiss manager Murat Yakin complained that several players were suffering from illness in the lead-up to the game.

Portugal took advantage of Switzerland’s problems and racked up six goals. Portugal’s last two games in the 2022 FIFA World Cup went into the halftime break with over 0.5 goals scored. Morocco saw one of their last two games in the tournament end the first half with more than 0.5 goals.

Morocco will try to limit Portugal’s chances in the opening 45 minutes with their strong defence. However, based on Portugal’s performance against Switzerland, they should have the answers to unlock the Atlas Lions. Our betting tips prediction is for over 0.5 goals in the first half.

Total corners for Portugal: Over 3.5

Portugal should spend most of the game attacking Morocco’s defence. It could lead to the Navigators racking up the corner kicks.

In Morocco’s round of 16 penalty shootout win against Spain, the Atlas Lions did not register a corner kick. However, Morocco conceded eight corner kicks to Spain. Spain spent plenty of time attacking Morocco throughout the game.

Our betting tips prediction is for Morocco to concede several corner kicks once more. Portugal should rack up over 3.5 corners in the game against the Atlas Lions. Morocco should spend a lot of the game with their backs to their own goal.
