The Europa Conference League continues on Thursday as teams fight through the qualifiers to make the tournament group stage. The Europa Conference League allows teams from Europe’s smaller and less glamourous leagues to play for a piece of continental silverware. While the big clubs and leagues are not fans, there are plenty of football supporters excited to see their teams compete in the competition.

Aberdeen vs BK Hacken Match Preview

On Thursday night, Scotland’s Aberdeen host Sweden’s BK Hacken at Pittodrie Stadium in the first leg of their Europa Conference League tie. The teams will meet for the second leg seven days later in Sweden.

Aberdeen are still in the closed season on the domestic front. They won’t start the Scottish Premiership season until August 1 against Dundee United. Aberdeen finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership last season with 49 points from 33 games in the regular season. Manager Stephen Glass will hope to take the Dons deep into the Europa Conference League and show that Scottish football is more than just Rangers and Celtic.

BK Hacken are in the middle of their Swedish Allsvenskan season. Although they haven’t had a great overall campaign and sit eighth after 11 matchdays, BK Hacken are unbeaten in five straight games – and their last four domestic matches all ended in wins.

Aberdeen vs BK Hacken Betting Odds

Aberdeen go into the new season with a new coach. Stephen Glass was appointed manager of the team in March 2021, taking the place of former boss Derek McInnes. Glass formerly worked for Ireland’s Shamrock Rovers but more recently coached Atlanta United 2, the reverse team for the Major League Soccer club that play in the United Soccer League.

Betting odds for the game from leading sportsbooks have Aberdeen as favourites at odds of 23/20. BK Hacken, on the other hand, are at betting odds of 2/1 to upset Aberdeen and take an advantage back to Sweden for the second leg.

BK Hacken coach Per-Mathias Hogmo’s team finished third in the Allsvenskan last term but are off the pace at the moment for a European place this term. The team are seven points off of third-place Elfsborg after 11 matchdays.

BK Hacken are on a four-match win streak in the Allsvenskan. On paper, the Scottish Premiership is a little bit ahead of the Allsvenskan in quality. However, much of the Premiership’s quality is made up by Rangers and Celtic.

Aberdeen vs BK Hacken Team News

Glass only had a short time with the club last season and now has had an offseason to shape the club. Six players have been signed by Aberdeen and Glass used his knowledge of the American soccer landscape to add players. Defender Jack Gurr was signed on a free transfer from Atlanta United and forward Christian Ramirez signed from Houston Dynamo for £205,000.

Ramirez came through the lower ranks of American soccer to star for MLS’s Minnesota United. He scored 21 goals in 52 games for the team before spending short spells with Los Angeles FC (24 games, six goals) and the Dynamo (31 games, eight goals).

Joining Gurr and Ramirez are former Celtic captain Scott Brown, Arsenal academy graduate Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, defender Declan Gallagher, and goalie Gary Woods. Aberdeen’s recruitment has been excellent this season and could see them do well on the domestic front and in Europe.

Like Aberdeen, BK Hacken enter the Europa Conference League at the second qualifying round. No player is more important to the BK Hacken attack than Alexnader Jeremejeff. The forward has bagged five goals in 10 league matches. Midfielder Gustav Berggren will aim to create the goals for Jeremejeff. He leads the team with four assists in 10 league matches. Hogmo has three players that are doubts for the game due to injury. Johan Hammar has a thigh strain and unlikely to return until August. Meanwhile, Rasmus Lindgren and Jasse Tuominen are doubts through leg injuries.

Aberdeen vs BK Hacken H2H

There is no recent history between Aberdeen and BK Hacken. These teams have not met on any occasion and our prediction for the game on Thursday is for a tight fixture with both sides going for the win. Remember, UEFA has eliminated the away goals rule in all competitions. So, an away go for BK Hacken does not swing the tie in their favour.

If there is a worry for new manager Glass, it is the lack of matches for Aberdeen this summer. While BK Hacken have played 11 league matches, Aberdeen have played just two friendlies. Both games ended in draws – 1-1 with Inverness and nil-nil against St. Johnstone.

Aberdeen vs BK Hacken Prediction

Halftime/Full-time result: Draw-Aberdeen win @ 9/2 - BET NOW

Our prediction for Thurday night is Aberdeen and BK Hacken will play a very close match. Aberdeen have not had a great preseason and don’t start the league season until August 1. BK Hacken are on a good run of form and are 11 games into the Allsvenskan season. The first half should be nip and tuck with Aberdeen winning the first leg in the second period.

Christian Ramirez to score anytime

Our betting tips include claiming Christian Ramirez could be the signing of the season in Scotland. Yes, that is a bold claim, but for just £205,000, the 30-year-old veteran striker could surprise a few onlookers in Scotland. He is coming off of two so-so seasons for Los Angeles FC and Houston Dynamo, yet still scored 15 goals in 59 MLS games. The American centre-forward should start and will help make supporters forget about former striker Sam Cosgrove.

Over 2.5 goals scored @ 5/4 - BET NOW

Our prediction for Thursday’s Europa Conference League qualifier is that goals will be scored. Aberdeen look impressive on paper and Glass had an excellent summer recruiting players. Brown will anchor the team’s midfield and provide leadership. Meanwhile, we predict Ramirez will score goals this season.

BK Hacken have scored 16 goals in 11 matches in Sweden this term. They have also allowed 15 goals to opponents. There will be more than 6,600 fans at Pittodrie for the first leg, our prediction is that the support will cheer a new-look Aberdeen to a victory in a close match.
