Cagliari are coming off of a legendary home win against Juventus 2-0 in midweek. The Islanders withstood a storm of Juventus shots (33), yet scored twice in the first half and won to nil. Now, Cagliari head to the San Siro for the final game of the season to play AC Milan.
Prior to Cagliari’s win against Juventus, they had been in poor form. Walter Zenga’s team were winless in five straight games prior to their dramatic win against Juventus. Leave it up to legendary manager Zenga to claim that amazing win to nil over the league champions.
AC Milan are unbeaten in five straight games against Cagliari. The Rossoneri have turned their season around since the restart and are six games unbeaten in Serie A. They have claimed 14 points from their last 18 possible. AC Milan have been brilliant with Zlatan Ibrahimovi? scoring goals for the club. Since arriving in midseason at the San Siro, Ibrahimovi? has scored nine goals in 17 Serie A appearances. According to Ibrahimovi?, he is “like Benjamin Button” and only getting younger.
AC Milan have won to nil in their last two games against Cagliari. Can the Rossoneri win at San Siro versus Cagliari or will the Islanders come and conquer AC Milan?
When the two clubs met on Sardinia earlier this season, AC Milan won 2-0 thanks to goals from Rafael Leao and Ibrahimovi?. Both AC Milan goals came in the second half of the game. The Rossoneri have won back to back games against Cagliari without conceding a goal. Although the Islanders won against Juventus in midweek, Stefano Pioli should feel confident that his side will get another win to nil.
AC Milan are coming off of a 4-1 win against Sampdoria away in midweek. Pioli’s team have won four of their last five games in the league and are in great form. They have qualified for the Europa League and cannot move above or below sixth place in the division. Could AC Milan finally be on the way back up after years of financial instability and underperforming?
Cagliari can finish the season as high as 10th but need a win and the teams in front of them to all drop points. It is unlikely that Cagliari can finish 10th but few people would have given them a chance to defeat Juventus.
AC Milan are unbeaten in five straight games at the San Siro. Four of those five games finished in wins. They have posted a +8-goal difference over the course of the season at home. With Ibrahimovi? in the team, anything can happen at the moment.
Three players are set to miss out on the season finale for Pioli. He is without full-back Andrea Conti, centre-back Alessio Romagnoli, and defender Mateo Musacchio. AC Milan could have issues in defence but they have showed now defensive weaknesses in recent matches posting six matches unbeaten. None of those six games finished in a shutout, however.
Ibrahimovi? has revitalised AC Milan and in spite of the spending the club have done in between the Swede’s time in Italy, they have not signed anyone to replace him.
Zenga has three players suffering from injuries and one suspension for the weekend. Midfielder Radja Nainggolan remains sidelined as does Luca Pellegrini. Christian Oliva is expected to miss the fixture as well through a long-term injury. Nahitan Nandez is set to miss the fixture through suspension.
In spite of where Calgiari sit in the Serie A table, the club have some exciting players. Striker Giovanni Simeone has bounced around Serie A in recent seasons. After bursting onto the Serie A scene in 2016 with Genoa, scoring 12 goals in 35 games, he moved to Fiorentina. After arriving in 2017, Simeone scored 20 goals in 74 matches. He was loaned to Cagliari ahead of this season and played well tallying 12 goals in 36 matches. He is one to watch especially after bagging a goal versus Juventus.

Since Ibrahimovi? returned to AC Milan from LA Galaxy, the club have ridden his broad shoulders up the table. The Swede is ageless and continues to show why he is one of the most underrated goal scorers in football. Ibrahimovi? has tallied nine goals in 17 appearances and could hit the double-digit mark at the weekend. Cagliari may have won to nil against Juventus but they will be lucky to keep the scoreline low at San Siro.
AC Milan are unbeaten in five straight games against Cagliari with four of those matches finishing in wins. That trend should continue as the Rossoneri look toward playing in the Europa League next season. AC Milan have financial issues a plenty and in early July it was announced they lost €100 million. The good news is the club have no debt. Although the losses are significant, they had lost €146m in the year prior.
Champions League football would have helped significantly with the club’s finances. Europa League football will have to do. AC Milan finish their season with a win and prepare for a short break ahead of next campaign.
