Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona head to the Mendizorrotza Stadium on Saturday night to face off with Deportivo Alaves. The Glorious One head into the game in 15th place in La Liga. The Basque club are blowing hot and cold in La Liga. Deportivo Alaves have posted a 2W-1D-4L record. They have collected seven points from 21 possible and now have Barcelona coming to town.

The 2016-17 season was the last time that Alaves defeated Barcelona. The win came at Camp Nou and saw the Glorious One claim a 2-1 victory. Barcelona head into the game having failed to win their last three La Liga matches. Koeman’s side have struggled collecting just one point from nine possible.

Barcelona suffered back to back La Liga losses over the course of their last two games. After a shock away 1-0 loss to Getafe, Barcelona were embarrassed by El Clasico rival Real Madrid, 3-1. The Blaugrana have won eight straight games against Alaves in all competitions.

Barcelona did win in midweek in the Champions League against Juventus, 2-0. Ousmane Dembele’s first-half goal was enough but Lionel Messi added a second-half stoppage-time penalty to give Barcelona the win. Can the Blaugrana end their winless run in La Liga?

Alaves vs Barcelona Betting Odds

Barcelona thrashed Alaves in both La Liga matches last season. The Blaugrana outscored Alaves 9-1 last season in their two league matches. Alaves head into the game having tallied four points from 12 possible in La Liga. They have scored a mere one goal on at home and three of their fixtures ended without scoring a goal. Their last home match ended 2-0 at the hands of Elche.

The Blaugrana have claimed three points from six possible this season away from home. They have a +2-goal difference having scored three times and allowing just one against. Their last away game at Getafe finished with a 1-0 loss.

Barcelona have won eight straight games against Alaves in all competitions. Four of those eight games finished in wins to nil for Barcelona. All four of those wins to nil came on the road at the Mendizorrotza Stadium.

Koeman’s team have taken seven points from five games. Their expected point figure is 6.75. Barcelona have scored nine goals and have an expected goal mark of 7.70. Alaves, on the other hand, have scored five goals and have an expected goal figure of 7.17. Their points total is seven and against an expected point number of 9.11. Alaves will be up against it on Saturday night against Barcelona.

Alaves vs Barcelona Team News

Koeman continues to have long-term injuries with key players missing matches. The team’s win versus Juventus should be a boost to their form in the league. Goalkeeper Andre-Marc Ter Stegen is ruled out with a knee injury. Neto will continue in goal for the Blaugrana. Centre-back Samuel Umtiti is ruled out of the game too. The defender has a knee issue.

Attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho is ruled out of action with a hamstring strain that will keep him out until November against Atletico Madrid. Ronald Araujo came off at halftime against Juventus in midweek and is unlikely to make an appearance against Alaves. Araujo’s hamstring problem will most likely keep him out of the team until late November.

Alaves manager Pablo Machin has two players ruled out of Saturday’s game at home. Rodrigo Ely has a muscle injury that will keep him out of the side. Pons Rierra Pere has a foot injury and won’t return until sometime in December.

Alaves have scored just five times in La Liga. Five different players have combined to score their goals. Alaves are coming off of a 2-0 win versus Real Valladolid. Tomas Pina and Borja Sainz found the back of the net in the second half to give the team the win.

Alaves vs Barcelona Prediction

Barcelona to win both halves - BET NOW

Barcelona won both halves against Alaves last season in La Liga. The Blaugrana were excellent against the minnows from the Basque Country. In midweek, Barcelona claimed a 2-0 win versus Juventus and scored in both halves of the game as well. Although they have struggled to get goals and win games in La Liga in recent weeks, Barcelona should play well against Alaves and claim a win in both halves.

Ansu Fati to score anytime - BET NOW

Ansu Fati is Barcelona’s leading goalscorer this season. He has four goals in five games and is scoring Barcelona’s goals as Lionel Messi continues to struggle in games. Fati scored last weekend against Real Madrid, drawing the Blaugrana level with Los Blancos in the first half. It didn’t last, however, as Real Madrid scored goals in the second period to win. Fati has an expected goal figure of 1.26 and an actual figure of 4.0.

Over 2.5 goals scored - BET NOW

Alaves should fail to defeat Barcelona once again. The game should end with Barcelona breaking out for over 2.5 goals scored as they claim a much-needed three points. The win will put to bed a three-game unbeaten run in La Liga. The Blaugrana are seven points off of first-placed Real Sociedad heading into the weekend. They could pull closer with a win and results going their way elsewhere. Barcelona also have a game in hand.

Ten of the last 12 games between Alaves and Barcelona finished with over 2.5 goals being scored. Goals tend to be scored when the teams play. However, Barcelona are the team that do most of the scoring. Eleven of those 12 games finished in wins for Barcelona and just one victory for Alaves.

Barcelona have issues off the pitch still. President Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned as his war with Messi grows even more. It is possible that Messi will re-sign with the club for a further year. Bartomeu’s resignation could be the catalyst to Barcelona’s renaissance this season. They will defeat Alaves on Saturday and begin life positively in La Liga without Bartomeu as president.
