While the Premier League is off this weekend due to an international break, the Championship will continue with a full slate of matches. Barnsley and Bournemouth will meet at Oakwell Stadium on Saturday. Barnsley are still last in the Championship and are on a three-game losing streak. The Tykes have picked up 14 points from 26 games this season.

Bournemouth dropped to third place this week in the Championship. Blackburn Rovers’ 1-0 win over Middlesbrough saw them leapfrog Bournemouth in the race for automatic promotion. The Cherries have lost back-to-back games in the Championship and Scott Parker’s team has hit a huge bump in the road. Four of the last six matches in the Championship finished in losses for the Cherries.

Earlier this season, Bournemouth defeated Barnsley 3-0 at Dean Court. Jordan Zemura scored twice on either side of a Dominic Solanke goal. Parker needs the team to improve their results soon before falling further behind Blackburn Rovers in the race for second place.

As it stands, Bournemouth are eight points off of first-place Fulham and three points back of Blackburn Rovers. Bournemouth are currently just six points ahead of seventh-place Nottingham Forest in an incredibly competitive race for the promotion playoff places.

Barnsley vs Bournemouth Betting Odds

odds

The Cherries are in shakey form going into the Saturday's tie at Oakwell. Bournemouth took just six points from the last 18 points available in the Championship and have scored six goals in their last six games while conceding seven times. Four of their last six matches in the Championship ended in defeat with two consecutive defeats in their last two matches.

Despite this, Bournemouth can be backed at odds of 20/21 to win at full-time and are the favourites to win at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon.

Four of the last five matches with Barnsley in all competitions ended as wins for Bournemouth. The Cherries have the league’s second-best away points total with 25 from 14 games on the road. However, just one of Bournemouth’s last six games in the Championship ended as a win.

Barnsley have taken just two points from the last 18 points available in the Championship. Their last three games ended as losses, and The Tykes are six games without a win. Barnsley have only obtained 10 points from 36 possible at home this term and are underdogs going into this game - the best price available for a Barnsley win is 4/1.

Barnsley have drawn eight of 26 matches this season while Bournemouth have drawn seven of 28 games in the league. If you wish to back a draw the bookies bes-price is 13/5.

Barnsley vs Bournemouth Team News

Barnsley coach Poya Asbaghi received the role at the club out of left field. The appointment hasn’t worked, but it hasn’t helped Asbaghi that key players left the club over the last six months. Barnsley have not rebounded from Valerien Ismael’s exit for West Brom last summer.

Asbaghi has three players on the injury list going into the game on Saturday. Defender Liam Kitching is a doubt due to a knock. Forward Cauley Woodrow has a knee injury and will be out of action until February. Aapo Halme has a leg injury and will miss the game.

Parker has five players on the injury list going into the match this weekend at Oakwell. Midfielder Robert Brady is experiencing physical discomfort which could keep him out of action. Defender Ethan Laird is also suffering from physical discomfort and is listed as a doubt.

Forward Junior Stanislas has a hamstring injury and is a long-term absentee. Stanislas isn’t expected back until April. Defender Adam Smith is ruled out of the game with a knee injury. Meanwhile, David Brooks continues to undergo cancer treatment. Striker Dominic Solanke has scored 18 times for Bournemouth this season. He bagged a goal in the reverse fixture versus Barnsley.
