Copa America favourites Brazil play Colombia on Wednesday with qualification to the quarterfinals already secured. Tite’s team are now focused on finishing first in the group. Brazil defeated Venezuela 3-0 to kick off the tournament on home soil. They followed up the game versus Venezuela with a 4-0 thrashing of Peru.

Colombia have already played three times in Group B picking up four points from nine possible. The Colombians defeated Ecuador 1-0 but could only draw nil-nil with Venezuela. Colombia were then shocked by Peru 2-1. Reinaldo Rueda’s team are second in the group with four points, two points back of Brazil, and have played one more game than the Selecao.

Brazil and Colombia are expected to progress to the quarterfinals as the two best teams in Group B. While Brazil have been impressive scoring seven times and conceding zero goals, Colombia have blown hot and cold. They have posted a zero-goal difference with two goals for and two against.

Colombia have won just three times against Brazil dating back to 1945. Brazil have defeated Colombia 19 times and drawn 10 games. The last two matches between Brazil and Colombia finished in draws. Can Colombia get a result and slow down the machine that is Brazil?

Brazil vs Colombia Betting Odds

Colombia lost 2-1 to Peru on Monday in a surprise result. Peru’s Sergio Pena opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Colombia’s Miguel Borja equalised from the penalty spot but a Yerry Mina own goal just after halftime gave Peru the victory. Colombia dominated possession with 59% and completed 516 passes compared to Peru’s 364. They tallied 12 shots with four on target. However, they conceded 11 shots with three on target to Peru.

Leading sportsbooks have Colombia at odds of 6/1 to claim a fourth-ever win versus Brazil. Colombia were in good form prior to their loss to Peru on Monday. They had gone four straight games without a defeat. Two of those games ended in wins and two in draws.

Brazil are at odds of ½ to win at full-time for a 20th time versus Colombia. The Selecao have been brilliant this summer and are heavy favourites to claim another victory. Tite’s team are in form and no other team at the Copa America look likely of stopping the team on home soil. If this Brazil play at the 2022 World cup next year, they could life the Jules Rimet Trophy. The only thing missing from the Brazil team currently is a striker of the quality of Ronaldo or Romario.

The teams are at 31/10 to finish in a draw. Colombia just aren’t scoring goals at the Copa America, which is a surprise based on the quality Rueda has in the team.

Brazil vs Colombia Team News

With progress to the quarterfinals secured, Brazil coach Tite could rotate the team. Against Peru, the Selecao scored four times as Alex Sandro, Neymar, Everton, and Richarlison all scored. Three of the four goals did come in the second half. Neymar is in excellent form for Brazil. The Paris Saint-Germain forward has scored a goal in each of Brazil’s last four games. Tite doesn’t have to start the forward, but could give him another place in the starting XI against Group B’s second-best team.

Thiago Silva started versus Peru taking the place of Marquinhos. Fabinho also stepped into the team for Casemiro. The Liverpool defensive midfielder played next to Manchester United’s Fred – a favourite of Tite. The Brazil coach has built the team on a defensive, strong spine. His philosophy is to keep goals out first and score second.

This may be the strongest Brazil team since 2002 when the Selecao won the World Cup in Japan and South Korea. If Brazil had a strike with the quality of Ronaldo or Romario, this would be the best team in the world. As it stands, it is difficult to say Brazil are the world’s best team. Why? They have excelled in 2020-21 against teams such as Bolivia, Peru, and Venezuela.

Rueda played an attacking 4-2-3-1 formation versus Peru. He used Duvan Zapata out of position on the left wing and Juan Cuadrado on the right side. Rueda could play a five-man midfield to slow down Brazil’s brilliant attack. Mina and Davison Sanchez should partner once more in the centre of defence.

Brazil have scored seven goals without conceding to opponents at the Copa America. Tite’s team are in great form and will continue their winning against Colombia. Brazil’s two group stage matches at the Copa America finished with more than 2.5 goals scored. They defeated Venezuela 3-0 and Peru 4-0.

Colombia are the second-best team in Group B on paper. They haven’t shown it, however. Rueda’s team have disappointed and a long, difficult club football season could be to blame for the struggles. Brazil have won 19 times against Colombia and should do it once more this week. Even if Tite rotates the Brazilian team, the quality is too good to lose.
