Brazil kicked off the Copa America 2021 tournament with an impressive 3-0 victory over Venezuela. Neymar starred in the match and tallied a second-half penalty. The penalty goal was sandwiched in between a Marquinhos and Gabi goal. Tite will be whole-heartedly impressed with the match and expect Brazil to build on it.

Peru are yet to play in the Copa America Group B. Their game against Brazil will kick off their campaign. Coach Ricardo Gareca will be happy to get their most difficult game out of the way first. The Peruvians are likely to compete for the third or fourth spot in Group B. As long as they finish in the top four, Peru will move onto the knockout stage of the tournament.

Brazil and Peru played in the Copa America 2019 final with the former winning the game 3-1. The teams met more recently in 2020 in CONMEBOL 2022 World Cup qualifying. Brazil won the fixture 4-2 but had to come from behind twice to win the game. Peru’s Andre Carrillo opened the scoring in the fifth minute but a Neymar penalty 23 minutes later brought Brazil back into the game.

Renato Taipa put Peru back into the lead just after halftime, but Richarlison levelled the game once more on 64 minutes. With seven minutes to play, Neymar scored twice more to give Brazil the victory. Peru are the massive underdogs going into the game. Can they end Brazil’s brilliant run of form on Thursday (Friday European time)?

Brazil vs Peru Betting Odds

Brazil and Peru have played 48 times dating back to 1936. The Brazilians have posted a great record and lead the head-to-head against Peru. They have posted a record of 34W-9D-5L over the course of those 48 fixtures. Tite’s team are the No. 3 team in the world according to FIFA’s rankings. Brazil may not play the best teams in the world at South American tournaments, but they are the cream of the crop on the continent.

Leading sportsbooks have Brazil at odds of ¼ to win a 35th match all-time versus Peru. Brazil are on a seven-match winning streak in all competitions. Six of those seven games have finished in wins to nil for the team. This isn’t a stunning attacking team despite the talent Tite has in attack. The coach has built the team on a strong defence with a stiff spine.

Tite is still looking for a striker to score the majority of the team’s goals. Brazil have not an out-and-out goalscorer of high quality since the days of Ronaldo. Neymar is not a pure No. 9 and is played as a winger. Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Jesus are two of the players that could be used to lead the line along with Gabi.

Peru are major underdogs at odds of 17/1 to win versus Brazil. Peru’s CONMEBOL 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign has not gone well. They have won just once in their six 2022 World Cup qualifying matches. The victory did come on June 8 against Ecuador, 2-1. However, prior to the victory, Peru had lost four straight matches.

Brazil vs Peru Team News

Expect Brazil to dominate possession just as they did versus Venezuela. They tallied 62% possession versus La Vinotinto and dominated the game from the first minute. The defensive combination of Eder Militao and Marquinhos should remain intact. Alisson Becker played in goal giving Ederson a game off. Ederson had played in the team’s World Cup qualifiers. With two world-class goalies, Tite can select one of the two Premier League stars without a drop off in play.

Tite could rotate his midfield. He started captain Casemiro at the base of a midfield three with Fred and Lucas Paqueta on either side. Fabinho could step in for either Fred or Paqueta. Meanwhile, Tite could give Vinicius Jr a start and replace Jesus on the right side of the attack. Gabriel Barbosa (Gabi or Gabigol) could get the start as the team’s No. 9. He scored in the second half of the game. Defender Thiago Silva is fit and available to play once more.

Gareca could start striker Gianluca Lapadula in attack. The Italian-born forward qualifies for Peru through family ties. The former AC Milan striker maybe Peru’s best hope for a goal. There isn’t a lot of high-quality talent in the Peruvian team. Just five players from the squad play in Europe and only two of those five players compete in a top-five league.

Brazil vs Peru Prediction

Brazil to win to nil @ 3/4 - BET NOW

Brazil have been brilliant over the course of their last seven matches. Six of those seven games finished in wins to nil. Interestingly, Peru were the last team to score against Brazil. Twice they took the lead only to lose it and the game, 4-2. This time around, Brazil should keep their excellent defensive form going and keep the Peruvians out of goal.

Neymar to score anytime @ 5/6 - BET NOW

Neymar scored a hat-trick the last time these teams met. He is coming off of a goalscoring effort versus Venezuela and is in good form ahead of Thursday’s game. Neymar has tallied 67 goals in 106 games all-time for the Brazilian national team. Peru’s defence may not be able to keep the Paris Saint-Germain forward from running riot.

Over 2.5 goals scored @ 7/10 - BET NOW

Brazil smashed Venezuela 3-0 to open the Copa America tournament. There is little to no indication that the Brazilians won’t smash Peru. The last time these teams played, Brazil scored four times. Yes, they had to come from behind twice, but their goalscoring in the second half showed goals can be scored in a short amount of time.

Four of Peru’s last six games ended with over 2.5 goals scored. Just one of those four games finished in a victory for the Peruvians. Brazil should claim a victory on matchday 2 of Group B and solidify their place at the top of Group B. Brazil look great. If they could find a goalscoring striker, Brazil would likely win next year’s World Cup.
