Chelsea head into the Premier League’s matchday 8 seventh in the division and four points off of first place. Sheffield United, on the other hand, sit second to bottom of the table. Just one point from 21 possible has been taken by the Blades. They are one of three teams not to win in the Premier League this campaign.

Frank Lampard’s team are on a five-match unbeaten run in the league. They are coming off of a 3-0 win away to Burnley last weekend. The Blues have made the most of playing the Premier League’s worst teams. Lampard will expect his team to claim another big three points against a bottom of the league club.

Sheffield United’s sophomore season in the league has not gone well. The Blades were brilliant defensively in 2019-20 and got timely goals to get points. However, this season, the defence hasn’t been as strong and the timely goals have evaporated. Sheffield United have scored the joint-fewest goals in the league with just three after seven games.

Sheffield United took four points from six last season against the Blues. They were brilliant against Chelsea, but should struggle this time around. Can Chelsea continue their unbeaten run?

Chelsea vs Sheffield United Betting Odds

Chelsea have taken 12 of 21 points this season in the league. Home has not been where the heart is for Chelsea, however. Just four points from nine have been taken at Stamford Bridge. A 4-0 win against Crystal Palace was sandwiched between a 2-0 loss to Liverpool and 3-3 draw with Southampton.

The Blues have scored seven times and conceded five goals at home this season. Lampard’s team not only won in the league last weekend, but claimed an impressive Champions League victory against Rennes in midweek. Timo Werner scored twice from the penalty spot and Tammy Abraham added a second-half goal.

All three of Sheffield United’s away games in 2020-21 in the league finished in losses. They have scored a mere two goals on the road while allowing five goals. Losses to Aston Villa, Arsenal, and Liverpool have all been racked up by Sheffield United on their travels.

The game between Chelsea and Sheffield United played at Stamford Bridge in 2019-20 finished 2-2. Chelsea’s inconsistent defending came to the forefront in that game. After going into halftime up 2-0 thanks to goals from Tammy Abraham, Sheffield United scored twice in the second period courtesy of Callum Robinson and an own goal from Kourt Zouma.

Chelsea vs Sheffield United Team News

Lampard has just three injury issues at Stamford Bridge heading into matchday 8. Kai Havertz is currently ruled out after testing positive for COVID-19. Havertz has not hit the ground running as a Chelsea player. The early part of the season has been a struggle for him.

Forward Christian Pulisic could join Havertz on the sidelines. He is a doubt heading into the game. The American has a minor hamstring issue that is likely to keep him out of action until after the international break. Midfielder Billy Gilmour remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has four players on his injured and suspended list. Lys Mousset is currently ruled out of action due to an ankle issue. Mousset has been missing for nearly the entire season. Defender Ethan Ampadu is ruled out due to being owned by Chelsea. The Welsh defender has played well thus far and will be a miss for the struggling team.

Jack O’Connell is ruled out with a knee injury and John Fleck is not likely to play. His lower back injury will most likely keep him out until late November. Just three goals have been scored by Sheffield United with Sander Berge, Billy Sharp, and David McGoldrick scoring those goals. In spite of paying big money for Rhian Brewster, Wilder has only played him on average, 56.7 minutes per game. If they want him to score goals, he needs to play more.

Chelsea to win to nil - BET NOW

Chelsea’s defence is not the best in the league. They have conceded nine goals in the league. Chelsea concede 1.3 goals per game in the division. In 12 games in all competitions, Chelsea kept seven clean sheets. They are coming off of three straight clean sheets and two back-to-back wins to nil. The Blues are playing better defensively. Sheffield United have scored a mere three goals in seven league games. They won’t crack the Chelsea defence.

Timo Werner to score anytime - BET NOW

Werner has scored seven goals in all competitions and bagged two in midweek versus Rennes. He has only scored three times in seven Premier League games, however. Werner scored against Burnley last weekend and goes into the game with four goals in his last three games in all competitions. Werner is Chelsea’s new penalty taker. Three of his goals in all competitions came from the penalty spot in the Champions League.

Over 2.5 goals scored - BET NOW

Sheffield United are unlikely to score a goal against Chelsea. But that doesn’t mean the game on Saturday will end with fewer than 2.5 goals scored. Chelsea should be able to bag over 2.5 goals on their own. In midweek, they put three goals past Rennes. Eight of Chelsea’s 12 games in all competitions ended with over 2.5 goals scored this season. The Blues should have no issues with beating Sheffield United like they did last term when the Blades took four points from six.

How bad have Sheffield United been in 2020-21? They have one actual point compared to an expected goal total of 7.04. In addition, they scored just three goals in seven league matches with an expected goal total of 7.23. They have been very poor and underachieving and that shouldn’t change this weekend at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea should grab three points with over 2.5 goals going in. With Liverpool and Manchester City meeting, the Blues could move up the table and pull closer to the top of the standings.
