Crystal Palace vs Brighton Betting Tips, Predictions, Odds

Crystal Palace will meet Brighton on Sunday for a matchday 5 showdown. The two clubs are separated by three points in the table. Graham Potter’s Brighton have been more cold than hot this season, claiming just three points from 12 possible. Crystal Palace started we with six points from six but a two-match losing streak has set them back.

Matchday 5 is a big weekend for the two clubs. The winner could push on into midtable and potentially fight for a Europa League place. The loser may spend the rest of the campaign fighting to keep their heads above the bottom three.

Crystal Palace were unbeaten versus Brighton last season as the Eagles took four points from six available. Brighton last won away at Selhurst Park in 2018-19. They claimed a 2-1 win on that day, but Chris Hughton was in charge of the team at the time. Potter was unable to get a win away to Crystal Palace last term, but did get a 1-1 draw.

Both sides are coming off of matchday 4 losses. Can Crystal Palace get back to winning ways or will Brighton overturn their losing form?

Crystal Palace vs Brighton Betting Odds

Last season’s game at Selhurst Park finished 1-1 with both goals coming in the second half. Neal Maupay scored just after halftime to put Brighton into the lead. Crystal Palace found the equaliser with 14 minutes left to play to in the game thanks to Wilfried Zaha.

The reverse fixture at the Amex finished 1-0 in favour of Crystal Palace. After a scoreless first half, Jordan Ayew found the back of the net in the 70th minute to give the Eagles all three points. Five of the last nine games in all competitions between Crystal Palace and Brighton had a nil-nil scoreline at halftime.

Crystal Palace took three points from their opening six possible at home. They defeated Southampton 1-0 on opening day but fell to Everton 2-1 in their second match at Selhurst Park. Roy Hodgson has a few players missing in action with injuries. Full-back Patrick van Aanholt is set to miss the fixture. Centre-back James Tomkins is also ruled out currently. Fellow centre-back Gary Cahill is also set to miss the game this weekend. Summer signing Nathan Ferguson remains a doubt due to a knee injury.

Striker Michy Batshuayi will return to the team after missing matchday 4 against Chelsea. He was unable to play against his parent club. Batshuayi will be in line to start in attack. Connor Wickham is unlikely to play due to an injury.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton Prediction

Under 2.5 goals scored - BET NOW

Sunday’s game matches two sides that are not too proficient in the final third. Crystal Palace have scored just twice in two home matches this season. They have conceded twice at Selhurst Park. Brighton have conceded five goals on their travels. Although they have allowed teams to score, Crystal Palace are not a side that will plunder their goal regularly. The last two games between Crystal Palace and Brighton finished with under 2.5 goals scored.

First half result: Draw - BET NOW

Five of the last nine games in all competitions between Crystal Palace and Brighton saw the first half end in a draw. All five of those games were nil-nil at halftime. Goals have not been forthcoming in many of the games between these sides. Coming off of an international break in which most national team players had to play three games over the course of a week and a half, there is likely to be fatigue. It could really show in first half of the game.

Second half total goals: Odd - BET NOW

The last time these teams met, a single goal scored by Crystal Palace in the second half sent them to a victory. Sunday’s game should be a low-scoring affair between the teams. In two of the last four Premier League games between Crystal Palace and Brighton, a single goal was scored in the second half.

The Eagles started the season well securing six points from their opening six available. They suffered two straight losses on matchday 3 and 4. They were well off the pace on matchday 4 versus Chelsea, losing 4-0 away. Crystal Palace are an oddity. They outplayed Manchester United away and claimed an impressive 3-1 win. Since then, they have lost two straight games.

Brighton have lost two straight games to Manchester United and Everton, respectively. The Seagulls should struggle to break through Crystal Palace’s defence. Hodgson’s side were solid on opening day at home claiming a 1-0 win versus Southampton. The Eagles could replicate that result versus Brighton on Sunday in a low-scoring fixture. Crystal Palace should claim a win at home.
