Euro 2020 Group D Betting Odds
Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions are favourites to win Euro 2020 Group D. England will play Croatia to kick of the tournament which won’t be an easy game. The two nations have met several times in recent years beginning with the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup. England are at odds of 4/11 to win Euro 2020 Group D ahead of the tournament.
If England are tipped to win the group, it is debated by many onlookers that the real fight will be for second place in the group. Croatia are at odds of 7/2 to win the group. They may struggle to get into second place with both the Czech Republic and Scotland being capable of taking points off of each other. Croatia had a poor 2020 but have rebounded slightly in 2021. Ahead of their pre-tournament friendlies versus Armenia and Belgium, they are on a two-game winning streak.
The Czech Republic are 12/1 to win Euro 2020 Group D. They were more consistent in 2020-21 compared to Croatia. The Czechs are familiar with Scotland as the two teams played against each other twice in 2020 in the Nations League. They lost twice against the Scots and were outscored 3-1 over the course of 180 minutes.
Scotland have the longest odds to win Euro 2020 Group D. They are 16/1 to outplay their three group rivals. Steve Clarke will be buoyed by the team’s performances last year against the Czechs. Scotland are playing in their first Euro tournament since the 1996 edition. This is just the third time the Scots have made the Euros.
Euro 2020 Group D Team News
Southgate is yet to announce the final England squad as of this writing. He won’t announce the final 26-man team until June 1. One of the reasons for the delay is due to several players still competing in matches and injuries. Twelve possible England players have not finished their seasons due to their involvement in the Europa League and Champions League finals.
There are a number of injuries to key players such as Jordan Henderson, Harry Maguire, Kalvin Phillips and Nick Pope. The manager wants to see how each player in European finals makes it through those games before making a final squad decision.
Clarke has announced Scotland’s final 26-man squad. Scotland Young Player of the Year David Turnbull, Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour and Nathan Patterson all made the final cut for the squad. The likes of Andy Considine, Leigh Griffiths, Liam Palmer and Lawrence Shankland did not make the final Scotland squad. Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson will captain the team for the tournament.
Croatia do not have the same quality they did three years ago at the 2018 World Cup. Still, manager Zlatko Dalic has some experienced players in the team such as Ivan Perisic of Inter Milan, Hoffenheim’s Andrej Kramaric, and Real Madrid’s Luka Modric.
The Czechs will be anchored by the attacking duo of Matej Vydra and Patrik Schick. There is not a lot of quality from front to back in the side. They will compete for second place or the third place and possible progression position with Croatia and Scotland.
Euro 2020 Group D Predictions
To win the Euro 2020 Group D: England @ 4/11 - BET NOW
England have a golden generation of players and the team should – on paper – reach the knockout stage as winners of the group. The Three Lions will play two friendlies against Austria and Romania. Ahead of the friendlies, England claimed four straight international matches.
Croatia to qualify for the round of 16 @ 3/10 - BET NOW
Croatia are the second-best team in Euro 2020 Group D – on paper. The Croatians had a rough 2020 thanks to playing the likes of France, Portugal, and Turkey. Dalic’s team are not what they were during the World Cup 2018. They are still good enough to qualify for the round of 16. Croatia will battle the Czechs and Scotland for the second position in Euro 2020 Group D.
Czech Republic to finish bottom of the group @ 11/8 - BET NOW
Many onlookers will believe Scotland are the group’s weakest side and will finish dead last in the group. The Scots have played well over the course of the last 12 months. They should do well enough to challenge for the third-place position and possible qualification to the next round. The Czechs lost twice to Scotland last year. They failed to win five of their 11 games over the course of 2020-21. The Czechs may not have as much quality as the Scots.
