Germany and Hungary have everything to play for on Wednesday on the final day of Group F. At the same time the Germans and Hungarians kick off, Portugal and France will do battle in another high-stakes game. Each of the teams in Group F have the chance to qualify for the last 16. Equally, all four teams could be eliminated from the Euro 2020 tournament.

Germany head into the game after unexpectedly thrashing Portugal 4-2 on matchday 2 of Group F. While the scoreline seemed close, Germany were up 4-1 by the hour-mark as Portugal scored two own goals. Thanks to their head-to-head goal difference, Germany are second in the group going into the match on Wednesday.

A draw against Hungary may not be enough to go through to the next round if Portugal defeat France. Didier Deschamps’ team are first in Group F with four points from six possible. The Hungarians played brilliantly at home in Budapest on Saturday, claiming a 1-1 draw versus France. It was the French who had to come from behind in the second half to earn a point.

Hungary know their task – which won’t be easy – going into the game. Marco Rossi’s team must win on Wednesday to have a shot of going through to the last 16. With two matchdays left in the Euro 2020 group stage, a lot can happen in terms of the four best third-place teams qualifying for the next round. The good news for Group F’s teams is that they will play on the final group stage matchday.

Germany vs Hungary Betting Odds

Germany have home-field advantage as the game will be played in Munich at the Allianz Arena. It is a massive blow to Hungary. They used the support from their home crowd in Budapest to go toe-to-toe with France and earn a point. Germany and Hungary have played 33 times with Joachim Low’s team posting a record of 13W-10D-10L. Germany have won back-to-back games against the Hungarians. Their last meeting came in 2016 with Germany claiming a 2-0 win in a friendly.

Leading sportsbooks have the Germans at odds of 2/9 to claim a victory versus Hungary. Despite losing their first game of the Euro 2020 tournament, Germany have played well. It has been a bit of surprise as Low’s team looked to be at a low point. The manager is leaving the national team after the Euros and an overhaul of the team.

Germany won the European Championship in 1996, but failed to qualify from the group stage in 2000 and 2004. They finished as runners-up at Euro 2008 and made the semifinals in 2012 and 2016.

Hungary are at odds of 16/1 to shock Germany and give themselves the opportunity to qualify for the last 16. The Hungarians have also played well at the Euros. Throw out their 3-0 loss to Portugal to open the tournament. Hungary stood toe-to-toe with Portugal but fell apart late. They didn’t fall apart versus France and could step up once more versus Germany. The issue is that Hungary are not playing at home.

Germany vs Hungary Team News

Coach Joachim Low has a squad full of confidence, something we didn’t see going into the Euro 2020 tournament. The returns of Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller have helped solidify the squad. They have also brought in much-needed leadership. The players have appeared in Germany’s two games at the Euros and made major impacts.

Unfortunately, Muller is now suffering from a knee injury. Although Germany’s medical staff will do everything to get him fit, Muller could miss the match due to the injury. It is expected that if Muller does miss the match, he will be fit for the knockout stages.

Centre-back Hummels is also suffering from a knee issue. It may not be as serious as the injury to Muller’s knee allowing Hummels to play the match. Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule could step into the team if Hummels is unable to start. Leroy Sane could play in place of Muller.

Hungary will be without striker Adam Szalai following a head injury against France. Szalai is the team’s focal point in attack this summer. His absence will be a major blow. Nemanja Nikolic should start in Szalia’s place. Midfielder Daniel Gazdag has withdrawn from the squad following an injury. He will miss the rest of the tournament.

Robin Gosens to score anytime @ 16/5 - BET NOW

Robin Gosens is in excellent form for Germany. He is now being tipped for a transfer to “big” clubs around Europe including Manchester United and Barcelona. The Atalanta midfielder scored against Portugal helping the team to a 4-2 victory. Gosens tallied 12 goals and eight assists in 44 games for Atalanta in Serie A. He has played nine times for the German national team scoring twice.

Over 2.5 goals scored @ 4/9 - BET NOW

Goals must be scored for either of these teams to win and claim a place in the last 16. Germany are not assured of going through to the next round. Portugal could leapfrog them in Group F with a victory against France. Hungary must win to position themselves as a possible last 16 team. They reached the last 16 five years ago.

Unfortunately, they just don’t have the attacking power needed. Without Szalai, Hungary should ultimately struggle in the final third as Germany claim a win to progress to the next round.
