There’s just over two weeks to go until the Spanish domestic campaign starts so it is a good time to analyse the La Liga betting to see if anyone can challenge Barcelona and Real Madrid for honours in 2018/19.

Atletico Madrid to Win La Liga @ 14/1 - BET NOW

Whenever punters consider the La Liga odds ahead of a new season, it is natural to think of the usual suspects of Barca and Real Madrid.

However, Atletico Madrid consistently lurk in the background, with a minimum of top-three finishes in the past six successive seasons, including title glory in 2013-14, while they also pipped cross-city rivals Real Madrid to second spot behind Barca last term.

Looking ahead to the new season and Diego Simeone’s side will probably never have a greater opportunity to upset the La Liga odds and claim a second title in five seasons.

Champions Barcelona remain favourites, while Real are available at 13/8 to win the title, but both go into the season in a state of transition.

Barca have lost the midfield engine room of last season, with both Andres Iniesta and Paulinho departing earlier in the summer, and they have yet to be adequately replaced by coach Ernesto Valverde.

Real are very much in a state of flux after Zinedine Zidane stepped down as coach shortly after guiding Los Blancos to a third successive Champions League title in May.

Julen Lopetegui is the man brought in to replace the Frenchman and he appears set on changing the style of play, which could further upset the apple cart.

Throw the massive void created by Cristiano Ronaldo’s summer departure to Juventus and Real could have issues regarding their goals for tally next season.

Meanwhile, Simeone has drafted in some sound acquisitions, such as Thomas Lemar, Gelson Martins and Rodri to beef up his options at the Wanda Metropolitano, and he arguably now has a stronger squad than last season.

The World Cup could also work in favour of Atleti as they only had five first-team stars in Russia, while both Barca and Real had double that amount, and that could play a part in the latter stages of a long domestic season.

Griezmann La Liga Top Goalscorer @ 9/1 - BET NOW

Ronaldo’s departure from the Spanish game seems to have paved the way clear for Barca star Lionel Messi to secure the La Liga Golden Boot for a third successive season, and not surprisingly he is favourite at 4/7 to finish top of the pile.

Real star Gareth Bale is likely to be given more of an opportunity to shine at the Santiago Bernabeu in the absence of Ronaldo and is worth considering at 9/1, but much will depend on him avoiding the injury issues that hampered him last season.

Messi’s Barca team-mate Luis Suarez hit 40 goals to finish top scorer in 2015/16, while outsiders such as Celta Vigo’s Iago Aspas and Girona frontman Cristhian Stuani are good La Liga tips, considering they both broke the 20-goal barrier last term.

However, France international Griezmann finished on 19 goals last term in just 32 league appearances, while he has an impressive 79 goals in 143 La Liga outings in total since joining in the summer of 2014.

Boosted by his four goals to help France to World Cup glory in the summer, and anticipating a strong season from Atletico Madrid as a whole, Griezmann will be pushing Messi for his crown.
