Rotherham have six points available to save their season. The Millers are three points behind Derby County going into the final week of the Championship season. If Rotherham can defeat Luton Town on Tuesday night, they will move above an awful Derby County thanks to goal difference. The teams would go down to the final day of the Championship season in the relegation race needing wins to stay in the division.

Luton Town have nothing to play for this week. The Hatters are comfortable in midtable with no ability to move into the playoffs nor be relegated. Manager Nathan Jones will use Tuesday night’s home fixture as preparation for next season in the Championship.

There may not be a ‘next season in the Championship’ for Rotherham. The Millers have had a number of games in hand, yet failed to win any of those games. They are marooned on 40 points alongside Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls are looking for survival and could get it on the final day of the season. Their goal difference is worse than Rotherham’s goal difference, but better than Derby County’s. Making things even juicier going into the final day of the season is that Sheffield Wednesday will visit Pride Park to play Derby County.

If Rotherham can finally cash-in a game in hand, it would put pressure on Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday. Rotherham’s destiny is in their own hands. Can they snatch it from Luton Town on Tuesday night?

Luton Town vs Rotherham Betting Odds

Luton Town took the spoils in the reverse Championship fixture between the clubs. James Collins’ second half goal was enough for the Hatters to win 1-0. These teams have not been in the same division over the last decade until this season. There are no trends to glean from previous meetings except for the match from earlier in the Championship campaign.

The biggest trend currently is Rotherham’s winless streak. Paul Warne’s team are winless in six straight games. Their 1-1 come from behind draw against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend ended a run of five matches without a victory.

Had Rotherham won their games in hand, they would be well above Derby County in the Championship standings going into the final day of the season. Leading sportsbooks have Rotherham at odds of 11/8 to pull off a win away from home.

Luton Town are unbeaten in their last five league games. Three of those matches ended in wins while two were draws. Last weekend, the Hatters drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough at home. Bookies have Luton Town at odds of 2/1 to win at home. Their last three games at Kenilworth Road finished without defeat. Two of those games finished in draws, however. Bookies have Luton Town and Rotherham at odds of 29/11 to draw.

Luton Town vs Rotherham Team News

What are the permutations for Rotherham to survive relegation? A win on Tuesday night at Luton Town would not save them nor would it relegate Derby County or Sheffield United. Keep in mind, Wycombe Wanderers’ won last weekend at Bournemouth and are also still in the fight for survival. Yet, due to goal difference need a minor miracle to stay up. Rotherham’s future in the division is secure with a win on Tuesday and win at the weekend at Cardiff City.

Just one player is on the Rotherham injury list going into the penultimate fixture. Goalkeeper Viktor Johansson has an eye injury and may not be available. Warne currently has a fit squad outside of Johansson.

Jones has two players suffering from injury at Luton Town. Tom Lockyer is nearing a return from an ankle injury and could make the squad. The same goes for midfielder Eunan O’Kane. He is returning from a broken leg and could be available for either or both games this week.

Luton Town took 11 points from the last 18 on offer in the league. Despite having nothing to play for, they have been good over the last month of play. Rotherham, on the other hand, have not been good. They took a mere one point from the last six available to them.

Luton Town vs Rotherham Prediction

Both teams to score goals: NO @ 13/10 - BET NOW

The pressure is on Rotherham to score, keep goals out, and win. If they cannot do that this week in either match, they will be relegated. Destiny is in their hands. The reverse fixture between the teams finished 1-0 in favour of Luton Town. Although they have nothing to play for, the Hatters have been good over the course of their last five matches. Two of their last four games ended with both teams not scoring.

James Collins to score anytime @ 11/5 - BET NOW

Luton Town forward James Collins has 10 goals in 40 Championship matches. His goal tally leads Luton Town. Collins scored in the reverse fixture against Rotherham in the second half to give the Hatters all three points. The Irishman has three goals in the last six games in the Championship. He has been an integral part of Luton Town’s midtable play this season.

Under 2.5 goals scored @ 1/1 - BET NOW

Rotherham have simply not scored the goals needed to stay up. Five of their last six games ended with under 2.5 goals scored. Four of those six games ended with both teams not scoring goals. Rotherham are struggling in front of goal and those struggles could continue this week. Four of their last six games in the Championship ended in losses to nil.

If Rotherham fail to win or draw, the fight for survival will go down to the final day of the Championship season. The Millers would then need a win against Cardiff City and Derby County to lose to Sheffield Wednesday. Luton Town, on the other hand, are safe and have no pressure to get points versus Rotherham. Not having pressure on their shoulders could see them win on Tuesday night.
