ManUnited will be looking for their first win of the 2014/15 season when they welcome QPR to Old Trafford this weekend and with Falcao, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Angel Di Maria having been recruited the Reds’ fans will be expecting them to do so at a canter. QPR also made a few late forays into the transfer market and TomPowell expects them to get on the scoresheet on Sunday afternoon…
Man Utd v QPR (Sunday, 16:00, SS1)
Tom Powell’s Verdict: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE @ 11/8 – BET NOW
United have made some eye-opening signings this summer but they still don’t appear to have addressed their lack of quality personnel at the back so both teams to score looks a decent option when QPR visit the north west.
Marcos Rojo is available for Sunday’s match though he’s not played much football since the end of the World Cup while Daley Blind comes into the match having never played outside the Eredivisie. Phil Jones is a doubt after hobbling off in England’s match against Switzerland and so United look set to field a makeshift backline with little Premier League experience.
Though much of last season’s defence has now left the club United ended the season with some poor defensive stats. In all competitions, 17 visiting sides found the back of the net including six of the sides that finished in the bottom half of the league. QPR got their campaign up and running with a 1-0 win over Sunderland last time out and added Sandro, Niko Kranjcar and Eduardo Vargas to their ranks on deadline day – though the latter is still awaiting a work permit - so they should offer more going forward. Defensively they leaked four in their one away match to date so both teams to score at 11/8 looks a touch of value.
Man Utd v QPR Team News: Phil Jones is a doubt for United while Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick are long term absentees. Eduardo Vargas is still awaiting a work permit while Alejandro Faurlin is out for the season.
Anytime Angle: Robin Van Persie @ Evens – BET NOW. Yet to get off the mark this season but he did play 90 minutes for Holland during the week so should be fit to play and is well-priced at evens.
Banker Bet: QPR +2 Asian Handicap @ 61/100 – BET NOW. United are yet to win this season so clearly they are yet to cover this handicap and although QPR were trounced at Spurs I think they’ll run United closer than the bookmakers expect.
Premier League Betting: United’s outright winner price was in single figures going into the first match of the season but after three matches without a win it is out to 14/1. QPR have one win and two losses from three and the bookmakers make them 7/4 shots to be relegated.
