The Sunday Championship match this weekend is an absolute cracker – the East Midlands derby between Nottingham Forest and Derby County. These sides are joint favourites for the title and local rivalry is fierce – but who will come out on top? Ross Casey previews the Football League clash, so don’t miss his analysis of the betting markets. Read below to find out…
Nottm Forest v Derby (Sun, 13:15, SS1)
Ross Casey’s verdict: Nottm Forest Draw No Bet @ 3/4 – BET NOW
This is an absolutely huge match in the East Midlands area and it is also a big spectacle for us neutrals. Not only is it local bragging rights at stake here, but three points between the two favourites to win the Championship.
A narrative like that does not need the Sky hype machine to entice us football lovers, but we have it anyway with live coverage on Sunday. Forest come into this match having won six of their seven matches this season – they are unbeaten and sit atop the Championship table.
Stuart Pearce is back at Forest and there is a real feel-good factor about the club – who now boast great squad depth and confidence. They are on a run of four wins on the bounce and have won both matches at home this season without conceding a goal. Sure fire home win, right?
Wrong. Derby have lost just one of their last 11 Championship matches (a 3-2 loss to in-form Charlton.) Derby have had a mixed bag away from home and are yet to win a Championship away match but boast a very good squad getting over the heartbreak of last season’s play-off final loss.
I think it is better value to back the undefeated Forest at 3/4 in the draw no bet market than backing them to win the game. Derby have not won away from home but are a dangerous side – so the safety blanket of money back for a draw in this match appeals.
Nottm Forest v Derby Team News: Forest have a fully fit squad apart from utility man Greg Halford whilst Derby do too, bar George Thorne who suffered a long term injury in pre-season. Jordan Ibe could be in line for his first appearance for the Rams after his loan move from Liverpool.
Anytime Angle: Henri Lansbury @ 9/2 – BET NOW. With my best bet a short price I am going for a bigger price here. The former Arsenal man has played twice this season – and scored in both! Back him to make it a hat-trick at 9/2.
Championship betting: These two rivals are joint favourites at the top of the outright winner betting market for the Championship. Both Forest and Derby are priced at 13/2 to win the league.
