Real Madrid went top of the La Liga table on Wednesday night with a 3-0 win over Cadiz. The victory took them to 70 points and level with fellow capital club Atletico Madrid. By the time Real Madrid take to the pitch on Saturday, they could be back in second place with Atletico Madrid playing on Thursday night versus Huesca.

Zinedine Zidane’s team will aim to defeat a plucky Real Betis at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano. Real Madrid are unbeaten in six straight games and are preparing for the Champions League semifinals versus Chelsea. Real Betis are fifth in the standings with 49 points. They are on a four-match run of draws in La Liga and are clinging onto a Europa League qualification place.

Real Madrid won the reverse fixture between the clubs in Seville 3-2. Federico Valverde scored in the 14th minute but Real Betis went into the halftime break in the lead thanks to goals from Aissa Mandi and William Carvalho. An Emerson own goal and Sergio Ramos penalty in the second half handed Real Madrid the win. The game also saw a sending off as Real Betis’s Emerson was red carded on 67 minutes.

Real Betis took four points from six points available against Los Blancos last season. The teams drew nil-nil in Madrid before Real Betis won 2-1 in Seville. Will Real Betis dent the reigning champion’s hopes of retaining the title?

Real Madrid vs Real Betis Betting Odds

Real Madrid sit atop of the current La Liga form table. They took 16 points from the last 18 on offer in the division. Zidane’s defence was immense in their last six games conceding just three times. They scored 12 goals in that same period. Real Betis took seven points from their last 18 available. Los Verdiblancos scored just six times while allowing five goals over the course of those six fixtures. Their last four games all ended in draws. Three of the four games ended in score draws.

Real Betis are at odds of 6/1 to win the match at the end of full-time. Los Verdiblancos are unbeaten in five of their last six games away from the Estadio Benito Villamarin. They have taken 20 points from 15 games played at home.

Real Madrid are at odds of ½ according to leading bookies. Los Blancos have the league’s third-best home points total with 34 points from 15 games. They have scored 27 times on their own turf and each of the last six fixtures in Madrid ended without a loss.

Real Madrid’s recent results against Real Betis in La Liga have been dreadful. Los Blancos are winless in three straight matches at home versus Los Verdiblancos. A win for Real Madrid is not guaranteed.

Real Madrid vs Real Betis Team News

Real Madrid cannot afford to overlook Real Betis this weekend with Champions League opponents Chelsea up on Tuesday night. However, reports on Thursday from UEFA stated there is a “small” chance the tie won’t go ahead following the announcement of the European Super League earlier this week. That is a topic for another blog, however.

Zidane has several names on the Real Madrid injury list. He could choose to rest players for Tuesday night’s Champions League semifinal. Midfielder Toni Kroos is nursing a knock and could miss the match. That could give Isco a rare chance to play this weekend. Luka Modric has a back issue that could keep him sidelined as well.

Valverde tested positive for COVID-19 this week and is not only ruled out of the Real Betis game, but the Champions League semifinal versus Chelsea. Sergio Ramos could finally make a return from a leg injury. Full-back Ferland Mendy won’t be fit after suffering a calf injury.

Pellegrini has two players on the Real Betis injury list. Goalie Dani Martin is recovering from a knee injury and could be back in time to take a place on the bench. Midfielder Victor Camarasa is still recovering from an ACL injury. He is not likely to be ready to play versus Real Madrid.
