The Scottish Premiership season is fast approaching with teams clamouring to narrow the gap on the country’s dominant force in Brendon Rodgers’ Celtic.
Alex Jack takes us through the Scottish Premiership betting to see if anyone is capable of knocking the Hoops off their perch north of the border.
Rangers to win the title @ 9/1 – BET NOW
With odds of 1/18 in some of the Scottish Premiership betting, there won’t be too many backing Celtic to retain their crown for what would be the eighth consecutive season.
Unsurprising to many will be that Rangers are the second most fancied team to finish top of the pile and the Light Blues will get some backers following the positive start made under their new boss Steven Gerrard.
Rangers have already shown signs of promise in their qualifying matches in the Europa League, beating FK Shkupi over two legs before taking a 1-0 lead into their second leg against Croatia’s Osijek.
The Ibrox outfit have been extremely active in the transfer market and Gerrard has been able to use his contacts at former club Liverpool to bring some of their exciting youngsters along for the ride in Glasgow.
Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria have swapped Merseyside for Glasgow on loan deals and the pair could play a big part in a Rangers’ resurgence, along with summer arrivals Scott Arfield, Connor Goldson and Jon Flanagan.
There is no doubting this is a better squad at Ibrox than last season, when they club had to settle for third place behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the standings.
Of course the acid test for Gerrard’s Rangers side will be when the Premiership gets started but the right signs are there for Gers in Europa League qualifying and the hope at Ibrox will be that they can push their Old Firm rivals all the way for the title this season.
We will have a much better understanding of Rangers chances after their first game of the Premiership season away at Aberdeen on August 5.
However a big win over the Dons at Pittodrie could see Rangers shorten in the Scottish Premiership odds for the title.
Motherwell to finish in the top half @ 13/8 – BET NOW
Motherwell had to settle for seventh place in the Premiership last season and signs are that they might just be able to go one better this time around and finish in the top half of the table.
Forward Conor Sammon has already made a positive start to the season and managed to bag a brace in a recent outing; a 2-0 win over Queen of the South in the League Cup.
The Hearts striker has agreed a season-long loan deal at Fir Park and the Republic of Ireland international could be a key figure in driving Motherwell further up the table.
Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson also has the likes of new arrival Danny Johnson and Curtis Main to call upon but it looks like Sammon will be the go-to man this season.
