Sheffield United vs Fulham Betting Tips, Predictions, Odds

Sheffield United and Fulham kick off Sunday’s Premier League action with both clubs entering matchday 5 in a must-win game. The Blades and Cottagers are propping up the Premier League heading into the weekend. Neither side have secured a point going into the weekend. The good news is, one of these teams at the least, will gain points this weekend.

The matchday 5 fixture between Sheffield United and Fulham is a six-point affair. A win could propel one of these teams to Premier League survival while a loss could be the first nail in the coffin of relegation for the other.

Fulham have been dreadful since their return to the Premier League. They have conceded 11 goals over the course of four games. Scott Parker’s side have allowed 2.75 goals per game. The pressure is surely rising around the manager. He had such a great season in the EFL Championship but a lack of Premier League-quality players in the team has hurt them thus far.

Sheffield United’s defence hasn’t been the problem. It is the team’s lack of goalscoring that is the issue. Sheffield United have scored the fewest number of goals in the league after four games with just one. Can they get goals and points versus Fulham?

Sheffield United vs Fulham Betting Odds

Sheffield United and Fulham last met in competitive league play in the 2017-18 EFL Championship season. Fulham won both of those games by a combined scoreline of 8-4. How things have changed since that 2017-18 campaign in the second division.

The Blades have played twice at home this season with both games finishing in losses. Chris Wilder’s team failed to score in 180 minutes of football at home this term. They only conceded three times in those losses as Wolverhampton Wanderers won 2-0 and Leeds United were victorious 1-0.

Fulham’s two away fixtures ended in losses. They played a thriller against Leeds United, losing 4-3. They followed it up with a 1-0 loss at Molineux to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Fulham are –2 in goal difference. They have scored three times while allowing five goals to opponents.

Both Sheffield United and Fulham are well off of their expected points totals after four games. The Blades have a real point total of zero and an expected point total of 4.37. Fulham are on zero points and have an expected point total of 3.27.

Sheffield United vs Fulham Team News

Wilder has four players on his injury list heading into the weekend. The October international break could give the manager the chance to have his players returning to fitness. Forward Oliver Burke could return to the team for the game. He is recovering from a knock. Back-up goalie Simon Moore is ruled out as his broken finger is not fully healed.

The manager is without the injured duo of Lys Mousset and Jack O’Connell. Mousset is a big miss as his goals were important to Sheffield United’s cause in the early part of the 2019-20 season. Wilder will have new transfer signing Rhian Brewster available for the game. Brewster joined the Blades from Liverpool just before the transfer window closed and a lot pressure is on his shoulders to get goals to keep the team up.

Parker has a nearly fully fit squad. He should have all of his players available by Sunday when the teams kick off. Midfielder Kenny Tete, defender Harrison Reed, and midfielder Mario Lemina are all recovering from their various injuries. The trio is likely to make the squad.

Parker is likely to give transfer loan signing Ruben Loftus-Cheek are run out in the team. He joined from Chelsea, who were so eager to get rid of him that they are paying over 50% of his salary.

Sheffield United vs Fulham Prediction

Under 2.5 goals scored - BET NOW

Neither Sheffield United nor Fulham score a lot of goals. The Blades may not be in the best of form, but their defence continues to be solid. Wilder continues to put an emphasis on defence and signed defensive players in the summer transfer window to reinforce the backline. He now has a potential goalscorer in Brewster. Fulham’s average 1.5 goals per game in away matches, but lost to nil last time on the road.

Both teams to score: No - BET NOW

Three of Sheffield United’s four games in the league this season finished with both teams not scoring. They have been awful in the final third, but with Brewster now in the team, could get on the scoresheet. Fulham have also been poor in the final third. They saw three of their first four games in the league finish with both teams not finding the back of the net.

Rhian Brewster to score anytime - BET NOW

Brewster should start on Sunday for Sheffield United after making a £20 million-plus move from Liverpool just before the transfer window closed. Brewster was unable to play for Sheffield United against Arsenal due to the deal not being registered in time. His signing should buoy the rest of the team.

Sheffield United have scored once in four games and have an expected goal total of 3.48. They are underachieving but the forwards Wilder assembled prior to Brewster are certainly not Premier League quality. In fact, they may not even be EFL Championship quality. Brewster scored 11 times in 22 appearances for Swansea City in the EFL Championship’s second half of the season in 2019-20. He has the potential to get goals, but the pressure on his shoulders is high.

Fulham are not a good defensive team. The rearguard doesn’t do a lot of defending, just pointing and blaming each other after goals are scored. They have conceded 11 times in four games and have the potential to allow the most goals this term.

Sheffield United’s goalscoring should show up on Sunday. The Blades will claim a win and sink Fulham to a fifth straight loss. Parker could be out the door sooner rather than later.
