Southampton v Liverpool Tips

- 13:01, 9th January 2017

Liverpool rested a whole host of players on the weekend ahead of their EFL Cup semi-final against Southampton, but they failed to win against Plymouth. Will the gamble pay off on Wednesday when they visit St Mary’s Stadium? Ross Casey offers his EFL Cup betting tips for this huge fixture…

Who are the favourites?

Liverpool have been installed as the favourites to win here with a best price of 7/5 using our odds comparison service.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost just two of their 25 games this season and bossed this fixture in the Premier League despite having to settle for a 0-0 draw. They are without both Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane for this game which is a real blow, but with the star players rested up, this is a winnable game for the Reds on the road.

Southampton have had a horrible festive period – four games in 11 days was one hell of a schedule and three defeats and a draw suggest the squad didn’t cope with that very well! Claude Puel is under a bit of pressure now, their defence is beginning to leak goals and it is costing the Saints.

Their home form is decent, however, before the defeats to West Brom and Spurs only Chelsea had beaten them on home soil. If you fancy the home side to pick up a surprise result, they are a best price of 11/5 using our odds comparison service or 12/5 to get a draw.

What’s your recommended bet?

My recommended Southampton v Liverpool betting verdict is to back both teams to score.

Unlike the Premier League match where Southampton played for a clean sheet and got it, the Saints can’t afford to have another game here with no shots on target.

Heading to Anfield for the second leg is going to be a tough ask and they simply must attempt to go out for the win so they have something to hang on to.

For that reason I see them scoring at home on Wednesday – they have only failed to find the net twice at St Marys this season – but also concede as Liverpool will have the opportunity to counter attack.

Back yes in the both teams to score market with a best price of 5/6.

Why use Easyodds to bet on this match?

I’m not necessarily sure that punters realise the importance of our odds comparison service…

For example, in the anytime goalscorer market, Maya Yoshida is a worst price of 9/1 and a far better best price at 16/1 elsewhere. Why wouldn’t you use our site to peruse the markets and ensure you get the best possible odds? Don’t settle for less – make sure you get the very best bang for your buck.
