The fourth and final live Premier League game of the weekend is between Southampton and Newcastle in what I affectionately call the John Beresford derby. Can The Saints continue their absurdly good run of results against The Magpies? Our tipster Ross Casey provides his best Southampton v Newcastle betting tips…

Who are the favourites?

With home advantage the bookmakers are making Southampton the 22/25 best price odds on favourites for this one.

That will seem short to many, myself included considering that Mauricio Pellegrino’s side have only picked up two victories in eight matches this season in all competitions! However, they do lay claim to a very successful record in this particular fixture.

Newcastle have won just once in 16 Premier League away games against Southampton, with The Saints winning more Premier League games in total and at home against Newcastle than they have against any other side.

Newcastle have impressed at home and have picked up seven points from a possible nine in their last three at St James’ Park, but on the road they continue to struggle. They have lost two and won one, scoring just twice.

Rafa Benitez’s side are a big price at 18/5 to reverse the form and win at St Mary’s on Sunday, making them big underdogs in the full-time result betting market.

What’s your recommended Southampton v Newcastle betting tip?

My recommended Brighton v Everton tip is to back ‘under 2.5 goals’ at a best price of 5/6 using our Easyodds football betting service.

Away from home, Newcastle play a very sound defensive game with Rafa Benitez intent on giving his side the best opportunity of winning the tie by being strong at the back. All three of their away games so far this season have featured just a single goal, with Newcastle contributing just one of those.

Saints have failed to score in eight of their last nine home Premier League matches, so they have massive troubles in front of goal too, with two goals or fewer in six of Southampton’s eight games.

This all points towards a low scoring game and the price of 5/6 appeals here.

Why use Easyodds to bet on this match?

I’m not necessarily sure that punters realise the importance of our odds comparison service…

For example if you fancy Maya Yoshida to score (who scored at Stoke in his last appearance) then he is a best price of 10/1. There’s a hefty difference in his price when you consider his worst price is much shorter at 8/1. Why wouldn’t you use our site to peruse the anytime goalscorer market and ensure you get the best possible odds?
