Manchester United's first match of the post Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era takes place at the Estadio de la Cerámica against Unai Emery's Villarreal.

Solskjaer was dismissed on Sunday in the wake of a 4-1 defeat at Watford in the Premier League which means they have won just one of their last seven top-flight games.

That run included a 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool while they were also humbled by Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Their Champions League form has been better and they defeated Villarreal in the reverse fixture as Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up in the last minute to grab all three points.

They currently top Group F with seven points from four games with Villarreal, level on points, only behind in second due to their prior loss in the head-to-head..

Manchester United vs Villarreal Betting Odds

Even though Manchester United are in the middle of a mini crisis, they are still the favourites to win at 29/20.

That is despite the fact they haven't won either of their two away games during the group stage - a 2-1 loss at Young Boys was followed by a 2-2 draw at Atalanta.

Conversely, Villarreal have picked up four points from two home games after a 2-2 draw against Atalanta was followed by a routine 2-0 win against the Swiss outfit.

Villarreal can be backed to win at 2/1 while a draw is available at 13/5.

Villarreal vs Manchester United Team News

The Spanish side are without Spain international centre-forward Gerard Moreno, who hasn't played since October 23 due to a muscle injury.

However, they have a fully-fit squad to choose from otherwise.

Manchester United have plenty of problems with French duo Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane both absent.

Mason Greenwood will also not participate after he was ruled out of the Watford game with Covid-19.

Luke Shaw and Edinson Cavani are also doubts for the game with head and tendon injuries respectively.

Incredibly, five of the six meetings between the two sides have ended in draws.

Prior to this season, the two sides met in the Europa League final which was 1-1 before Villarreal took the title on penalties.

Before that, the sides met in the group stages in the 05/06 and 08/09 Champions League campaign where four goalless draws were produced.

Draw - BET NOW

It's hard to look beyond a draw for these two teams as neither currently appear to be good enough to beat each other.

United obviously have their issues and the two teams have drawn five of their six previous meetings.

Villarreal are also the draw specialists in La Liga having taken a solitary point from seven of their 13 top-flight clashes.

A draw might be gratefully received by the Red Devils and there could be a temptation to try and keep things tight and avoid further humiliation.

Cristiano Ronaldo to score last - BET NOW

Ronaldo has saved United's bacon in each of their last three Champions League fixtures.

He scored in the 95th minute to secure the 2-1 win against Villarreal before scoring an 81st-minute winner against Atalanta a few weeks later.

Then another added-time goal rescued a point in the away fixture against Atalanta earlier this month.

He still possesses such an aura in this competition and could find himself making headlines once more.
