Vinnie Jones: I told you Leeds would be a force this year

Listen here Easyodds, we’re havin’ it this weekend. And if you want some winners, read on - you’ll find them here!

We've got to start with football and two matches catch the eye - Chelsea v Leeds and Spurs v Arsenal. Two great games and two great rivalries.

Let’s start with the game at the Bridge.

Two of my old teams going head-to-head - and two of the best footballing teams in the Premier League. Maybe the best two.

I told you Leeds would be a force this year, that they’d surprise a lot of people and Bielsa and the boys have done me proud.

They played great against Everton and beat them - just like I said they would!

The stats were ridiculous in terms of the amount of attacks Leeds had - the shots were raining down on Pickford in the Everton goal.

Leeds are creating chances and are a joy to watch - but now they’re up against Frank and his much-improved team. These guys are serious contenders, believe me.

The Blues outplayed Spurs last week - and, given Spurs are top of the table, that’ll give Lamps a real boost going forward.

Seeing Jose park the bus at the Bridge shows how much respect he has for Chelsea - even if he didn’t say it.

It was classic Jose, wasn’t it. Telling everyone the dressing room was downbeat because they should have won. Superb.

They’re a great team sure, but Arteta and Arsenal will this week look at how Chelsea contained Kane and Son in that second half. Neither got a sniff and Spurs aren’t the same team with those guys not in the game.

Because of that I actually make Arsenal value against Spurs this weekend.

No-one will give them a chance - they’ve had their worst start in 20 years or something.

Let the bookmakers dismiss their chances - and let’s steam in, because I reckon Arteta will get it right eventually.

Yes, they lack consistency because they don’t have the squad - the Gooners have bought badly - but you don’t work under Pep for as long as he did without picking up great things.

So back to Chelsea and Leeds - how will that go? Well, I’m calling it a draw - but a high-scoring one at that.

Both teams will carve out chances and keep both Mendy and Meslier busy throughout. I’m going 2-2, or even 3-3.

Either way, it’s unlikely to be like the battles Chelsea and Leeds had during the 70s! They weren’t for the faint-hearted and neither have their clashes since been.

I remember manager David O’Leary being sent off, Alan Smith and Graeme Le Saux at eachother’s throats, Wisey getting in stuck in - yellow and red cards aplenty. Just how I like it!

The modern game isn’t quite like that - matches like that are few are far between - and I reckon it’ll be more the beautiful game on Sunday rather than bust-ups.

Funnily enough, I’m heading back to Stamford Bridge myself this month.

I’m the special guest at the SBC Awards next week. It’s a betting and gaming industry event, so I’m representing the good people here at Easyodds.

It’s a virtual ceremony, of course, but I’ll be at the Bridge along with co-hosts Petr Cech and Kirsty Gallacher. I’ll have to be on my best behaviour - and scrub up well. The Brut will be busted out - maybe I’ll take a bottle along for Petr!

Aston Villa v Newcastle kicks off the Premier League weekend on Friday and I’m going with Villa to get back on track. They didn’t have the luck against the Hammers, but are still playing well enough.

Fair play to Davey Moyes with what he’s doing at West Ham.

You know I’m a massive fan of Declan Rice and Michail Antonio, but getting support from Jarrod Bowen and a rejuvenated Said Benrahma will delight the manager. They will give Man United a good game at the weekend.

Brighton v Southampton looks another tight game. A battle of the south coast sides, both are having really good seasons and a draw looks the call there. I really must get off that fence!

Anyway, check out my predictions below.

IT was sad to hear the passing of Maradona, but what a life led!

Diego was the greatest footballer I ever saw - and therefore right up there alongside Pele, Johan Cruyff, George Best, Ronaldo and Messi as the best ever.

I never actually met him - but, boy, would have loved to. Especially in the bad old days!

Most of us grow up and leave all that stuff behind, but Diego never did.

He lived life to the full - and his vices probably overshadowed his football in many ways, which is sad when you think of what he could do with a ball. No-one could work the ball like Diego.

People always talk about the hand of God goal against England, but just watch that second goal and marvel at what he did on that sh*t, pot-holed riddled pitch. If you love football, that was a thing of beauty.

It’s just a shame he never came to England to play - and Leeds were rumoured to have made a bid at one time. Now, that would have been something!

Gary Lineker told some superb Maradona stories last week, but then so, too, did Liam Gallagher.

And I suppose that sums up Diego. He transcended both worlds - football and rock n’ roll. RIP.

I’M back on the golf course and back in the gym this week, which is great.

The best European players are in Dubai and Sun City and I’m taking a punt on Wilco Nienaber - a young, big-hitting South African to win on home soil. He almost won two weeks. Put him alongside Dean Burmester, who’s played well in Sun City before.

Stateside it’s the Mayakoba Classic in Playa del Carmen, Mexico - and time for Brooks Koepka to get back on the winning trail. He’s back playing regularly now and will get stronger and will make less mistakes.

Let’s go with Koepka and Corey Connors, the Canadian who showed up well in the recent RSM Classic at Sea Island.

Good luck all and stay safe Easyodds people.

Vinnie.
