Watford are third in the Championship and can move into second place on Saturday with a victory over Nottingham Forest. The Hornets are playing well in the league while second-place Brentford are slipping up yet again in the second half of the Championship season. The Bees have lost four of their last six Championship games including a defeat on Wednesday to league leader Norwich City.

Nottingham Forest are down the table in 16th place. The Reds have taken 40 points from 34 matches. Chris Hughton’s side are winless in back-to-back games. They lost on Wednesday night to Luton Town, 1-0. Nottingham Forest are 15 points off of the playoffs but just eight from the relegation zone. Hughton’s team need to keep collecting points to move away from a competitive lower half of the table.

Watford and Nottingham Forest met in December at the City Ground with the game finishing nil-nil. The only interesting part of the game was the five yellow cards handed out to players. Xisco’s Watford are coming off of a 2-0 win against Wycombe Wanderers. Striker Andre Gray scored on either side of halftime to send the Hornets to the victory.

The Hornets are in form but 10 points off of first-place Norwich City. They can finish second, especially with Brentford struggling to get wins in the division. Can Watford continue their great form in the Championship?

Watford vs Nottingham Forest Betting Odds

Watford took 15 points from their last 18 points available. The Hornets have won five of their last six games in the Championship outscoring opponents 14-4. Leading sportsbooks have the Hornets at odds of 19/20 to win at Vicarage Road against Nottingham Forest. Watford have the Championship’s best home points total with 41 from 51 possible and have posted a goal difference of +22. They have won three straight games in the division at home.

Nottingham Forest too eight points from their last 18 on offer in the division. Remarkably, they scored just three goals. Hughton’s side conceded just three times during that six-game time span as well. Three of Nottingham Forest’s last six games in the league saw them fail to score a goal.

Leading sportsbooks have the Reds at odds of 7/2 to win away at Vicarage Road on Saturday at lunchtime. Nottingham Forest are on a two-game unbeaten run away from home. Nottingham Forest are showing improvement under manager but problems persist.

One of the big issues that was highlighted after Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 loss to Luton Town was the lack of impact players have off the bench. Striker Lyle Taylor was heavily criticised for his poor play after coming on for Hughton. The attack has been a major letdown for the Reds this season as just 28 goals have been scored compared to 33 conceded.

Watford vs Nottingham Forest Team News

Hughton could be without up to four players for the Saturday afternoon fixture. Midfielder Ryan Yates could miss the match due to a calf injury. Yates missed the game in midweek versus Luton Town. Lewis Grabban continues to be out of action with a hamstring injury. The forward was a massive part of Nottingham Forest’s success last season in front of goal. Injuries have curtailed his appearances this term. Harry Arter and Scott McKenna could both return to the squad for the game this weekend at Vicarage Road.

Xisco has several players on the injury and suspension list heading into the round 35 game. Troy Deeney is ruled out with an Achilles tendon injury until April. Tom Dele-Bashiru is ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury. Goalkeeper Ben Foster has a broken finger and my miss out. Defender Marc Navarro is a doubt to play after sustaining a hamstring strain.

Forward Joao Pedro should return to the team after being suspended for the midweek game. Nathaniel Chalobah will sit out a second game due to a suspension. Gray goes into the game in great form coming off of a two-goal game. Even without Pedro and Deeney, Watford have the tools to win matches in the Championship.

Under 2.5 goals scored @ 59/100 - BET NOW

Nottingham Forest’s last six matches in the league all finished with under 2.5 goals scored. Their games have not been high scoring in the least. Hughton’s squad have struggled to score. Just three goals were scored over the course of Nottingham Forest’s last six games. They only allowed three goals as well. Watford’s last two games finished with under 2.5 goals tallied.

Andre Gray to score anytime @ 23/10 - BET NOW

It comes as a surprise when shifting through the stats, but Andre Gray has scored a mere three goals in 19 appearances for Watford this season. He has tallied just three of Watford’s 45 goals in the Championship. Injuries hampered Gray’s performances early in the campaign, but now, he may be getting the time on the pitch to needed to make an impact. He scored twice in midweek and with Pedro coming off of a suspension and Deeney out with an injury, Gray could play more minutes.

Watford have been very good over their last six games. Nottingham Forest have been up and down, blowing hot and cold. The Hornets should pull off a victory on Saturday at lunchtime and move into second place for a few hours at the very least. Brentford’s massive dip in form has opened the door for Watford to seal automatic promotion back to the top flight. Brentford play relegation-threatened Rotherham and if Watford win, the pressure will be on them.
