Wolverhampton Wanderers host Brighton on Sunday at Molineux on Premier League matchday 35. Wolves are unbeaten in three of their last four matches in the league. They achieved a derby 1-1 draw against West Brom on Monday night to move to 42 points from 34 possible. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo will aim to get through the rest of the campaign and rebuild the squad for next season to challenge for Europe once more. Unfortunately for Wolves, Santo continues to be linked with the vacant Tottenham Hotspur manager job.

Brighton achieved a surprise 2-0 win over Leeds United on matchday 34. The Seagulls are 10 points above the relegation zone with 12 points left to play for. By all intents and purposes, Graham Potter’s team should be safe from relegation to the Championship. Brighton’s 2-0 win over Leeds United ended a four-match winless streak in the league.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton have met five times in the Premier League since the latter’s promotion to the top flight in 2018. Wolverhampton Wanderers have surprisingly not won against Brighton in any of those five fixtures. Brighton claimed a win in their first-ever Premier League match against Wolves in 2018-19, but since then, the teams have drawn four consecutive games.

Interestingly, the two draws at Molineux finished with both teams not scoring and under 2.5 goals. The two draws played at the Amex ended with over 2.5 goals and both teams finding the back of the net. Will the trend continue this weekend in the West Midlands?

Wolves vs Brighton Betting Odds

The teams’ previous match this season ended 3-3 as Brighton came from 3-1 down at halftime to earn a draw. Brighton’s Aaron Connolly opened the scoring in the 13th minute but Romain Saiss struck back six minutes later. A Daniel Burn own goal and Ruben Neves strike had Wolves up 3-1 at the break and looking likely of a win. However, Brighton fought back with goals from Neal Maupay (penalty) and Lewis Dunk to get a share of the spoils.

Wolverhampton Wanderers took just seven points from the last 18 on offer in the Premier League. They continue to struggle for goals with Raul Jimenez and Pedro Neto struggling with injuries. Brighton took eight points from their last 18 points available. They too struggled with scoring goals with just six scored. Brighton’s defence has improved as the season has gone on. The Seagulls allowed just three goals over the course of their last six fixtures.

Leading sportsbooks have Brighton as the favourite to win at full-time on Sunday. The Seagulls are 13/10 to win at full-time. Wolverhampton Wanderers are at odds of 5/2 to defeat Brighton for the first time in the Premier League.

The big issue for Wolves heading into the game is the number of injuries facing Santo and the small size of the squad. Squad size is an area the club may address in the offseason.

Wolves vs Brighton Team News

Santo has seven players on the injury list going into the game on Sunday. Joao Moutinho is recovering from an ankle issue and may not make the matchday squad. Defender Rayan Ait Nouri is in line to make the squad after recovering a knock. Meanwhile, five players are ruled out of the game through injury. Jonny Casto, Neto, Jimenez, Fernando Marcal, and Willy Boly are all ruled out of the game due to their respective injuries.

The manager has a limited number of players to choose from for the match on Sunday. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ team size is small. Santo may play Owen Otasowie and Vitinha in the team’s starting XI. Both players made the starting XI against West Brom on Monday.

Four players are on the Brighton injury list going into the weekend. Midfielder Adam Lallana is a doubt once more due to calf/shin injury. Florin Andone has a thigh injury and could miss the fixture. Solly March is ruled out of the match with a knee injury and could miss the rest of the campaign. Full-back Tariq Lamptey remains out of action for Potter with an injury.

Reports on Friday are that Potter could be an outsider for the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s job. The Express claims Tottenham players want Potter to be appointed coach in the offseason.

Neal Maupay to score anytime @ 2/1 - BET NOW

Neal Maupay scored a penalty in the reverse fixture against Wolves in January. He has eight goals in 32 matches for Brighton this season. He hasn’t score in Brighton’s last five league matches but could get on the scoresheet against Wolves once more. Brighton have scored just 35 goals this season with Maupay accounting for 23% of the team’s goals.

Over 2.5 goals scored @ 11/8 - BET NOW

The Premier League rivals combined for six goals earlier this season at the Amex Stadium. Two of their last three games in the league finished with more than 2.5 goals tallied. Two of Brighton’s last six matches finished with more than 2.5 goals scored. They have improved in defensive areas but could concede goals to Wolves this weekend. Two of Wolves last five matches ended with over 2.5 goals scored.

Although neither side have scored a lot of goals this season, a game played late in the term could see them catch fire in the final third. Brighton average 1.03 goals per game while Wolves average 1.24 goals per match. Brighton can seal Premier League survival for next season with a win or draw on Sunday versus Wolverhampton Wanderers. A Wolves’ win and Fulham victory will keep them in a precarious position.
