Uruguay have been made the bookies favourites to win Group A and first up they face an Egypt side sweating over the fitness of star man Mo Salah. Ross Casey offers his World Cup betting tips for Friday's early kick-off...
The bookies have made Uruguay the firm favourites to win this match at the Ekaterinburg Arena in Yekaterinburg, making Oscar Tabarez’s side a best price of 8/13.
I certainly agree with that appraisal as Uruguay have lost just one of their last nine matches – although there will be some concern about their decision to only play one warm-up game, which was an easy 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan on home soil.
They have Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez up front and are backed by a youthful and energetic midfield and a true bastion centre-back pairing of Atletico Madrid's Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez.
Egypt are a best price of 6/1 at the time of writing to pick up the upset victory - make sure you use our odds comparison service here as that is better value than the 11/2 some will settle for elsewhere!

I have two recommended Egypt v Uruguay picks. I will be increasing Uruguay's odds to win to 13/8 by backing them to be winning at both half-time and full-time and also backing PSG striker Edinson Cavani to net for La Celeste.
Egypt's over-reliance on Mo Salah – who of course has his injury worries – is shown by the fact they are winless in the four games they have played without him and have netted just one goal in those fixtures. For that reason I will be on Uruguay's side here but not at odds on. Get them in the half-time/full-time result market.
Of their nine wins in qualification, seven came with them leading at half-time. They have also been leading after 45 minutes in two of their last three matches before going on to win.
Egypt have conceded in the first-half in three of their last four matches, too, so there is some promise there that this Uruguay team can breach this Egyptian defence early and go on to win the game – especially with Godin and Gimenez as their centre-half pairing!
Secondly I am backing Cavani to score. He's netted in four of his last six matches for Uruguay and scored 40 goals in total this season across 50 appearances. I believe he will get at least one great chance to net in this one!
Below are the result for the last six games games played by Uruguay and Egypt. The winners for each game are highlighted in bold.
Uruguay 3 - 0 Uzbekistan (08/06/2018)
Austria 2 - 1 Uruguay (14/11/2018)

Egypt 0 - 0 Colombia

I’m not necessarily sure that punters realise the importance of our odds comparison service…
For example if you fancy former Atletico Madrid man Jose Gimenez to score in the opening game of the World Cup for Uruguay like he did for his club side this season in La Liga, he is a best price 12/1. There’s a remarkable difference in his price when you consider his worst price is 8/1. Why wouldn’t you use our site to peruse the anytime goalscorer market and ensure you get the best possible odds?
