2014 U.S Open Tips
R FOWLER @50/1
J DAY @33/1
The U.S Open is one of the four major golf titles alongside the British Open (known as The Open), the Masters and the USPGA. This year it is the turn of Pinehurst to host the tournament for the third time and that alters the very make and shape of the betting profile.
It’s a course that requires any number of skills right across the golfing spectrum and when I tell you that the past two winners there, Michael Campbell and Payne Stewart, came home in level par and one under respectively you will understand the job in hand for this year’s field.
Pinehurst is more than just a true test as far as the layout of the course is concerned with its un-kept bunkers, wide fairways and most annoyingly for the majority of the players, the upturned saucer greens. The other main factor is the heat; searing temperatures and high humidity in the deep south in the middle of June where mid-90’s figures are the order of the day.
A good striker of the ball from tee to green is essential but also with the ability to read these difficult greens, so step forward RICKIE FOWLER threatening to win a major in recent years and tied 10th at Merion in 2013.
With his injury worries behind him this course is also made for Aussie JASON DAY, tied second last year from way off the pace, while a back to form Rory McIlroy cannot be dismissed now that he has got used to his new clubs and his personal life is back in good order.
