The Waste Management Phoenix Open has again attracted a stellar field with Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas among the big names present. Aidan Perkins assesses the contenders.

The PGA Tour heads to TPC Scottsdale for what is always an eagerly-awaited tournament and, while the aforementioned quartet are all expected to mount serious challenges, they are not on offer at particularly attractive prices.

Spieth is the favourite, with Rahm, Fowler and Thomas all nestled in behind him in the Phoenix Open betting market, while two-time defending champion Hideki Matsuyama is also predictably high on the list - although he is certainly someone worth taking note of.

Hideki Matsuyama

Phoenix Open Outright @ 10/1 - BET NOW

The Japanese star is looking to make it three wins on the bounce in this tournament and clearly loves the course so he's the obvious candidate to side with when looking at the shorter Phoenix Open odds.

Like the other big names, Matsuyama may not represent great value to some, but the world number five is a reliable pick here.

Elsewhere in the outright odds, punters might be tempted to back Phil Mickelson, who won here in 2013 and the American is available at a generous 50/1 to cause a repeat of five years ago.

Ryan Palmer

Phoenix Open Outright @ 66/1 - BET NOW

But for those looking for better value, Ryan Palmer could be an astute selection. The American was second here in 2015 and is in form after losing narrowly in a play-off last week at Torrey Pines. His big-hitting game should suit Scottsdale and, at 66/1 outright, is certainly backable.

Bubba Watson

Phoenix Open top 10 finish @ 8/1 - BET NOW

The top-10 finish Phoenix Open odds are also worth checking out and Bubba Watson is the selection here. He's another whose previous form in the tournament suggests he relishes the course and conditions, despite claims two years ago he wasn't a fan of Scottsdale. Watson has twice been runner-up in the last four years and therefore odds of 8/1 for him to end in the top 10 seem too long.

Finally, backing the title to be won after a play-off at 3/1 may also pay off as it's something that's happened in the Phoenix Open five years out of the last 10, including in the past two years when Matsuyama has triumphed.
