The first World Golf Championship tournament of 2021 takes place at The Concession Golf Club in Florida this weekend, with world number one Dustin Johnson leading an elite 72-man field.
Former Masters champion Patrick Reed defends the title he won by a one-shot margin from Bryson DeChambeau 12 months ago in Mexico City.
WGC-Workday Championship Betting Odds
Dustin Johnson is 13/2 favourite to triumph on the course which has never been used for a WGC or PGA Tour tournament before. Even with a litany of stars in the field, it is no surprise Johnson is the favourite, DJ having posted nine top-ten finishes in his last ten outings.
Jon Rahm, who played at the 2015 NCAA Championship that was staged at The Concession and finished 22nd behind winner Bryson DeChambeau, is second favourite at 10/1 and the out-of-form Rory McIlroy is 16/1 as he aims to win his fourth WGC crown.
Tony Finau claimed his third successive second-place finish at Riviera last week and he is 20/1 to go one better this time.
WGC-Workday Championship Best Bet
Webb Simpson to win and each-way - BET NOW
Few players among the field for this week’s WGC-Workday Championship have experience of playing at The Concession in Florida, but with straight hitters and solid putters likely to make a big impression, Webb Simpson ticks plenty of boxes.
The former US Open champion features prominently in the greens in regulation and driving accuracy statistics and his improved putting has gone a long way towards him producing some fine recent performances.
He won the RSM Classic in June, the second event after lockdown, and he has claimed six top-ten finishes since then.
He was 42nd at the Phoenix Open in his last tournament but he gave himself plenty to do after carding an opening 73, so it would be dangerous to read too much into his last finishing position.
The world number ten is capable of competing against this sort of company and his consistency inspires confidence that he can win his first WGC tournament at the 21st attempt.
WGC-Workday Championship Prediction
Tyrrell Hatton to win and each-way - BET NOW
Tyrrell Hatton has climbed the ladder to now be rightly considered one of the world’s best players and he should need no second invitation to demonstrate that he deserves to be ranked fifth in the world.
This week’s tournament should give him the opportunity to do just that as he has all the skills that look vital to claiming success at The Concession.
He is ranked 31st in greens in regulation and is officially the 24th best putter on the PGA Tour when he gets on the greens.
The three cuts he has missed in his last 26 tournaments have all come in Majors and he broke his Stateside duck with victory in last year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Successes in two of the biggest events on the European Tour - the PGA Championship and the Abu Dhabi Championship - followed and he can make a strong showing this week.
Viktor Hovland to win and each-way - BET NOW
Norwegian sensation Viktor Hovland is in a rich vein of form and his strong driving could put him in a position to attack the challenging greens at the Florida track.
A third-round 76 went a long way towards explaining his 31st spot at the Tournament of Champions in his first outing of the year, but his other 2021 outings have been impressive.
He was second at the Farmers Insurance Open and sixth at the Saudi International before last week’s fifth place at the Genesis Invitational so his visit to the Sunshine State could prove to be a profitable one.
