Sony Open in Hawaii 2021 Betting Tips, Predictions, Odds: January 14th

It's part two of the PGA Tour's customary Hawaii double-header with a decent field gathered at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu for the Sony Open.

There's a $1.2m prize awaiting the winner and recent history tells us it's a title that takes some winning – three of the past five runnings have gone to playoffs with the most recent winner, Cameron Smith, needing extra holes to fend off Brendan Steele 12 months ago.

Last year's winner Cameron Smith is defending his crown and the 28/1 shot should be confident after shooting four rounds in the 60s at the Masters in November.

But inevitably, with so many of the world's top-20 swerving this event, it's a wide-open betting heat with Webb Simpson at 12/1 ahead of Collin Morikawa at 14/1.

Harris English pipped Joaquin Niemann in the playoff for last week's Tournament of Champions at Kapalua and both have made the short hop across the water for this event. English is 16/1 – the same price as former Masters champ Patrick Reed – while Niemann is 25/1.

Smith is a hard man to ignore given his phenomenal effort at Augusta where he may have finished a remote second to the runaway Dustin Johnson, but his consistency over the week was more than commendable.

He had also finished 11th at the CJ Cup and fourth at the Zozo in the run-up to The Masters, so having signed off 2020 in some decent nick, there are good grounds for thinking the Queenslander is set for a top year.

He was one of the 42 who teed it up at Kapalua last week, finishing 24th in a high-quality field and while he would have liked to have performed better, that was only his second trip to Maui and it does make for a bigger price at this course where he clearly enjoys himself having finished in the top 30 in three of four visits prior to winning.

Kevin Kisner each-way – BET NOW

Three-time tour winner Kisner was one of the non-winners who teed it up at Kapalua last week but this event is much more to the liking of a man who tends to target tournaments when he knows he has a strong chance.

Kisner, arrow-straight off the tee, came close to winning the RSM Classic in November and returns to Waialae, where he has enjoyed three top-five finishes from his last five starts.

The 36-year-old was never in the mix for a victory last week but he does not possess the power to overwhelm Kapalua. On this layout, however, his chances look a whole lot better, though if he hasn't nailed it in 72 holes but makes it to a playoff, bear in mind he's 0-5 in extra holes!

Lanto Griffin each-way – BET NOW

Big-priced winners are not uncommon at Waialae so don't shy away from the middle of the book which is where you'll find Lanto Griffin, a 45/1 poke.

Griffin teed it up at the Tournament of Champions, firing a 67 in tough final-round conditions to take a share of 13th, and he has familiarised himself with this track. He was 58th on his debut in 2018 but seventh on his second visit last year.
