The Memorial Tournament turned out to be profitable for our man Stuart Gatelan, he tipped Matt Kuchar each way at a nice price of 33/1 and backed him to finish in the top 10 at 11/4. Overall he made a profit of £43.75, which takes him back up to a total profit of £259.44 for the season. This week he will be concentrating on the St Jude Classic and hopefully he can make some more profit ahead of the US Open.
With the US Open just over a week away a lot of players have decided to miss this tournament to prepare in their own way for the second major of the year. Rickie Fowler is the only player in the top 10 rankings playing this week and after his runner-up performance at Muirfield Village last week you can see why the bookmakers have made him the 8/1 favourite. If he can produce that form here he could be very tough to beat, but I can’t help but feel there’s better value out there and that’s why I’ve picked out two players at bigger prices.
Brooks Koepka has had a relatively good season so far, unfortunately no wins as of yet but he has finished runner up in two tournaments (Shriners Hospitals for Children Open & Valero Texas Open) and accumulated over $2.2million in prize money.
Koepka knows this course very well and has a good record in the three years he has played this tournament – he was runner up to Daniel Berger last year, 3rd in 2015 and 19th on his debut in 2014. The course is a big positive for Brooks and at a best price of 12/1 I think he has a great chance to gain a second win on the PGA Tour.

For my second St Jude Classic tip, Phil Mickelson’s last win on tour was back in 2013 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, which is quite unbelievable if you think about it. I’d be the first to admit Mickelson is nowhere near the player he was in his prime but he’s definitely still capable of winning tournaments and this could potentially be the week he breaks his dry spell.
It hasn’t been the best of seasons for Phil but he has made every cut in the 14 tournaments he has played and he’s been there or thereabouts in quite a few of those events. I’m sure he will relish a return to the TPC Southwind this week as it’s a course and tournament he has played very well in the past, he’s record includes; Runner up (tied with Brooks Koepka) last year, 3rd in 2015 (tied with Brooks Koepka), 11th in 2014, and runner up in 2013.
At a best price of 20/1 I will definitely be taking a chance on Phil Mickelson returning to winning ways here and for those punters who like something more solid, you can get 13/8 on a top 10 finish.
