Remind me next time

Carnoustie on the east coast of Scotland is the venue for the 147th Open Championship and it promises to be another rollercoaster journey for the world’s top golfers.

The Open Championship betting certainly makes interesting reading and our golf expert Warren Ashurst has been seeking out the value bets.

Outright Winner

Rickie Fowler @ 18/1 - BET NOW

The last time an American held the Claret Jug aloft at Carnoustie was way back in 1975, when Tom Watson was the champion….but that run could end this year.

There are currently five US players in the world’s top seven and one of those is Rickie Fowler, who enjoys the test of links golf.

Fowler has missed the cut just once in eight appearances at The Open and has two top-five finishes to his name – including a runner-up spot to Rory McIlroy at Royal Liverpool.

The 29-year-old showed the type of form he is currently in with a T6 finish at the Scottish Open, which saw him card four sub-70 rounds (64-66-68-68) at Gullane.

After a second-placed finish at Augusta, Fowler seems determined to lose his tag as the best player on tour not to win a Major and this could be his time.

Thomas Pieters @ 80/1 - BET NOW

If you are looking for a big price success, The Open Championship tip of the week could be Thomas Pieters – who looks to have taken to links courses.

The Belgian’s length off the tee could be key this week, with many players deciding to favour irons due to the run from the hard fairways.

Pieters has enjoyed two top-20 and one top-10 in his last five tournaments, with a T6 finish at the Scottish Open a strong sign that he is back to the form that got him into the Ryder Cup team two years ago.

The 26-year-old is in the top-60 on the European Tour Stroke Average stats and recent performances have seen him move into the top 70 in the world.

Top 10 Finish

Russell Knox @ 6/1 - BET NOW

Those punters eyeing The Open Championship odds will note that the last two winners at Carnoustie have been British or Irish, so may be tempted into looking for a home success.

Russell Knox has been in outstanding form this year, highlighted by his win at the Irish Open two weeks ago. The Scot has also shone on the world stage, claiming a T12 finish at this year’s US Open.

Knox finished T49 at the Scottish Open, but would and should have been in the top-10 after rounds of 66-67-66 on the first three days. A frustrating final day 75 cost him another big pay day.

Top Rest of the World Player

Brandon Stone @ 22/1 - BET NOW

A 60 on the final day of the Scottish Open saw Brandon Stone collect his first European tour title since 2016.

The South African will head to Carnoustie full of confidence after his display last week and looks a big price in a wide open betting market.

Play-Off to decide the Winner?

Yes @ 3/1 - BET NOW

The last three Open’s at Carnoustie have needed a play-off to separate those at the top of the leaderboard and I wouldn’t bet against there being another.

If the calm and dry conditions continue, then we could see a bunch of contenders come Sunday and extra holes may well be required.
