The Open TipsStuart Gatelan - 09:07, 14th July 2017
It's Open Championship week, the best week of the year when it comes to Golf. Our man Stuart Gatelan has been in superb form over the past few weeks with 22/1, 3/1, 9/4 winners aswell as his most recent 80/1 place and 3/1 winner in last week's Scottish Open. He currently sits on a massive profit of £491 for the season and will be looking to add to that at The Open Championship.

The 146th Open Championship takes place at Royal Birkdale this year and will definitely be a great watch as it is every year. For the majority of my previews I have picked out two players but as this is one of the toughest tournaments to predict, I have to decided to pick out my top four selections for the event.
My first is pick is a player that comes into this tournament in great form, Jordan Spieth. His latest win (via a playoff) at the Travelers Championship was exactly what he needed to give him the confidence ahead of a tough week at Royal Birkdale. Jordan has been a consistent performer this season with two wins, six top 10 finishes and ten top 20 finishes; he’s accumulated just under $5million in prize money.
Spieth is well known for his great touch on and around the putting surface and that will play a big part if he's to win on this course. He's proven he can handle the pressure on the big stage and I think he's a great bet at a best price of 16/1.
When it comes to recent form and ‘one to follow’ there’s only one player that both myself and punters will be backing, Spain’s Jon Rahm. His latest win at Portstewart Golf Club (Irish Open) was up there with one of the best performances you’ll see this season. He was never out of the top 5 on the first three days and then absolutely blew the field away on the final day, eventually winning by six strokes at -24.
Royal Birkdale is a course that I feel is well suited to Rahm’s game and although he's yet to perform to his best in a major, if he can get off to a good start and stay calm and composed throughout his rounds I think he has a great chance of making it back to back wins and a first win in a major.
My final picks are two players that know this course very well, Padraig Harrington and Ian Poulter. At the 2008 Open Championship they finished first and second in what proved to be a very tough week for the players, Harrington winning with a score of +3 and Poulter four shots behind at +7.
It hasn't been the best of seasons for either player but both have shown good signs in the lead up to this week. Harrington finished 4th at last weeks Scottish Open and if it wasn't for his hiccup during the 3rd round I'm pretty sure he would have went on to win the tournament. Poulter was also in contention last week, he went into the final round as the favourite to win but unfortunately had a miserable final round. With two solid preparations and a return to Royal Birkdale likely to suit, I think both are worth backing each way.
