The 2020 US Open gets underway in New York on Thursday and the 144-strong field have a huge test ahead of them as they attempt to tame Winged Foot Golf Club, one of the toughest courses around.
Heading into a US Open, the competitors know that it will take a huge effort to lift the trophy come Sunday evening, with the course that is chosen to host the event always set up to be very challenging.
Mentally, the players will need to be as strong as they have ever been, while the physical part of their game will also need to hold up against the challenges that will be thrown at them throughout the four days of action.
It always helps to be in form going into this major championship and it is no surprise to see Dustin Johnson the 8/1 favourite to claim the spoils, given the fact he recently won the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup for the first time.
The American has won a further two times in 2020 - at the Travelers Championship and The Northern Trust - and he should be in the running if he replicates those types of performances in New York.
Spaniard Jon Rahm is next in the betting at 10/1 as he seeks his maiden major trophy, while Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy is a 12/1 chance to claim the spoils, just ahead of 14/1 shot Justin Thomas.
Brooks Koepka, champion in 2018 and 2019, has withdrawn from the event this year due to lingering pain in his knee, while defending champion Gary Woodland is a big price at 66/1.
Daniel Berger to win - BET NOW
Of the five previous US Open championships Winged Foot GC has hosted, only once has the winning score been under-par (in 1984), proving just how difficult the course set up can be.
Being able to stay mentally strong throughout the week is imperative and that is why Daniel Berger looks a tempting price at 33/1 to break his major duck at the 18th time of asking.
The American has already showcased his battling qualities after bouncing back from a wrist injury that hampered his progress for two years and he heads into the tournament ranked 13th in the world.
He landed his first PGA Tour success since 2017 when winning the Charles Schwab Challenge in June this year and he has kept the momentum going since, recording three top-10 finishes from his next seven starts.
Berger, whose best finish at the US Open is a tie for sixth in 2018, was sixth in strokes gained: total and scoring average last season, while he was fifth in birdie average and 15th in strokes gained: tee-to-green.
The 27-year-old was also first in scrambling - an area that could be crucial in New York - while he was 17th in strokes gained: putting and fourth in one-putt percentage.
Tommy Fleetwood to win - BET NOW
Fleetwood is another player that has a fantastic mental resolve and he has already shown his affinity to handling difficult courses when finishing second at the 2018 US Open at Shinnecock Hills.
That performance in New York was fantastic from the Englishman, who handled the windy conditions and slick greens superbly, and it would be no surprise to see him put in another strong showing.
A slight concern is the form of the 29-year-old, who was tied-44th on his last outing on the PGA Tour and has missed the cut from twice from his previous six appearances, but he often saves his best for the big events.
When it comes to grinding out scores, Fleetwood is one of the best and he could be worth an each-way punt at generous odds.
Tyrrell Hatton to win - BET NOW
Ultimately, the 2020 US Open is going to an almighty test and that could open the door for another Englishman in the shape of Hatton, who will be making his 21st major appearance.
The 28-year-old has five top-10s in the 'big four' events, with a tie for sixth at the 2018 US Open his best result, and he arrives in New York on the back of a positive 2019/20 PGA Tour season.
Hatton won his first title on American soil in March when landing the Arnold Palmer Invitational and he has managed to keep that momentum going since the restart, as he finished seventh in the season-ending Tour Championship.
The 28-year-old was eighth in strokes gained: total and fourth in strokes gained: approach-the-green on the PGA Tour last term, while he was second in birdie average and third in putting average.
