The second major of the year, the US Open, is just over a month away. Hosted at Erin Hills in Wisconsin, it’s sure to be another fantastic tournament and our in-form Golf tipster Stuart Gatelan has two early tips for the event.
US OPEN OFFERS
Erin Hills is a course that gives golfers a lot of interesting choices, for example biting off corners rather then playing it safe. It offers a number of challenges for every shot, with rolling hills that will punish any mishit shot. There’s no doubt the course will catch a lot of players out but the best ball-strikers will be well rewarded and that’s the reason why i and a lot of punters will be backing the most in-form player this season, World Number 1 Dustin Johnson.
Dustin’s ball striking has been second to none this season, from 8 tournaments he has been crowned champion twice, runner up once, 3rd twice and had 6 top 10 finishes in total. He unfortunately missed the Masters after an accident at home on the eve of the event but will surely be looking to make amends for that here and do everything he can to defend his title. Johnson is best priced at 8/1 to make it back to back wins in the US Open and i can see that price shortening if the injury doesn’t affect his form and he’s able to win a tournament in the lead up to this.
My second tip for the US Open is Olympic Gold Medalist, Justin Rose. Justin has been very consistent without winning this season, the closest being at the first major of the year (The Masters) where he finished runner up in a play off with good friend and Ryder Cup teammate Sergio Garcia. He also finished runner up at the Sony Open in Hawaii and has had 4 top 10 finishes from 10 events this season. Rose won the US Open back in 2013 so he knows what it takes to win an event like this and with the course being well suited to his game i think he is a great price of 25/1 to make it two wins in this prestigious tournament.
