The World Golf Championships' only Match Play event takes place this week and features 64 of the world's best players competing over a five-day event.

Since this tournament switched from straight knockout to a round-robin format, the cream has risen to the top as the cut-throat environment of 18-hole eliminations was removed.

Who will come out on top at Austin Country Club in Texas, read on for this week's golf tips.

Dustin Johnson to Win Outright @ 9/1 - BET NOW

The world number one is also the defending champion in Texas, after he held off Jon Rahm to score 12 months ago. Popular opinion would claim that this event is a wide open heat but it has repeatedly paid to side with players seeded inside the top ten.

Since Henrik Stenson won as ninth seed in 2007, eight of the next ten champions have been ranked ninth or higher. In fact since the format was changed in 2015, the ratio is even more striking.

Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson have won as top seeds, while in between, Jason Day walked off with the title as second seed. If that trend repeats, either Johnson retains his title or USPGA champ Justin Thomas prevails.

Of those, DJ is preferred. He won this event with something to spare last year, cruising into a big lead in the final against Rahm before easing off the gas a bit. He also looks to have found a good group alongside Kevin Kisner, Adam Hadwin and Bernd Wiesberger. Coming through that, nobody in the last-16 will want to face the world number one and he can make another strong run in Austin.

Patrick Reed to Win Outright @ 30/1 - BET NOW

The American is seeded 19th, so he falls outside the category that has produced nine of 11 winners recently, but the remaining pair were Hunter Mahan and Matt Kuchar – both seeded 21 and, like Reed, with Ryder Cup experience on their side.

Anyone that has watched Reed represent the United States on Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup duty will know that he comes alive in matchplay scenarios and that bodes well here. I also like that he has drawn a group including his Ryder Cup teammate and partner Jordan Spieth, as it should stoke the fire in Reed.

Both are renowned match-play stars and their Friday meeting will be an opportunity for one to take the high moral ground in regards to their standing in the partnership. Reed has also been playing nicely of late and getting the best of Spieth in the group stage could propel him for a run at this title and he's a backable price in the golf odds this week.

Rafael Cabrera-Bello to Win Outright @ 50/1 - BET NOW

The Spaniard took third place at this event in 2016 and could make another run towards the title this week. Cabrera-Bello is becoming much more comfortable playing his golf in the US and impressed on the PGA Tour recently, where he is sixth in greens in regulation and leads in proximity to the hole. Given that he is an exceptionally good putter, that gives him a terrific platform to build from.

He was third in the WGC-Mexico Championship recently and boasts an impressive 8-2-1 record in this event at this golf course.

He'll square off against Phil Mickelson in the group stage and Cabrera-Bello has the tools to worry Lefty. If they both make it that far, an all-Spanish quarter-final against Jon Rahm is in the offing and the younger man will have his hands full if that is the case.

Cabrera-Bello has the credentials to be the fifth European winner in 11 years, perhaps more so than the golf betting gives him credit for.
