Top class action comes from York’s Ebor Festival this week with four days of high class racing, culminating with Saturday's feature Ebor Handicap.

Darley Yorkshire Oaks

(Thurs 15:35)

The highlight for many may well be a possible rematch between Irish Oaks first and second with William Haggas’ Sea Of Class and the Aidan O’Brien-trained Epsom winner and runner-up at The Curragh, Forever Together, both engaged in Thursday’s highlight, the Darley Yorkshire Oaks.

Chief among their rivals could well be the Prix De Diane winner Laurens who could bid to provide Yorkshire with a “home” win with trainer Karl Burke based in nearby Middleham.

Laurens would be stepping up in distance should she take up this engagement but, having won at the highest level on her two most recent outings, she undoubtedly has the class for this contest and is out of a mare who stayed well, having won over an extended 1m6f in France. At 4/1 she looks a decent each-way bet.

The addition of the German-trained Night Music from the Sarah Steinberg yard adds an international flavour to the contest with the five-year-old unbeaten in three starts this season and chasing a first Group 1 victory, having won a good-ground Group 2 event over this 1m4f distance in Italy at the start of July.

Juddmonte International

(Wed 15:35)

Roaring Lion to Win and Each Way @ 5/2 – BET NOIW

The feature on the opening day, the Juddmonte International Stakes, could see King George winner Poet’s Word drop back in trip to take on rivals that could include Godolphin’s Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow who hasn’t been seen in action since that victory back in March.

The pair are among 11 entries that could also include the high class trio of Roaring Lion, Cracksman and Thundering Blue. Preference is for the first named, currently available at 5/2.

Nunthorpe Stakes

(Fri 15:35)

Star sprinter Battaash heads the 18 runners currently engaged in the Nunthorpe Stakes over 5f on Friday and he looks likely to be sent off odds-on favourite, having won impressively by four lengths over this trip at Goodwood earlier this month.

Lonsdale Stakes

(Fri 14:25)

John Gosden looks likely to send his Stradivarius to the big meeting with the prospect of picking up a £1m bonus no doubt an added incentive to his inclusion in the entries for the Group 2 Lonsdale Stakes, set to take place on the undercard of Friday’s sprinting feature.

The four-year-old is chasing the bonus thanks to two victories at the highest level in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on good-to-firm ground in June and a good ground success in the Goodwood Cup over two miles.

The Lonsdale Stakes is held over the same distance as the Goodwood Cup and the son of Sea The Stars has beaten a number of his possible rivals on Friday already this season as he chases a fourth consecutive victory.

Ebor Handicap

(Sat 15:40)

Stratum to Win and Each Way @ 4/1 – BET NOIW

Weekender, runner-up in a Listed race over course and distance in June, heads the weights for Europe’s most valuable handicap, the Ebor, which is set to take place on Saturday.

The market for the Ebor is currently headed by the Willie Mullins-trained, 4/1 favourite Stratum, who took out a valuable handicap over an extended 2m at Newbury when wearing a hood for the first time last month.
