Chester's three-day Boodles May Festival gets underway on Wednesday with the Chester Vase, featuring some potentials Oaks fillies, taking centre stage.

The world's oldest racecourse have a seven-race card from 13.45-16.45 on Wednesday afternoon and we've selected the best bets for the Roodee action.

National League to win and each-way - BET NOW

Experience of the Roodee is always a positive and, to that end, both Sir Maximilian and National League demand attention in a wide-open finale. The former is a four-time Chester winner and can play a role, but he is now a 12-year-old, and so preference is for Richard Fahey's youngster instead.

National League was a winner over C&D as a juvenile in 2019 - his only appearance here thus far - and began this year with near misses at Wolverhampton and Redcar over 7f in March and April before a well-held fourth in a Class 2 Newbury event over a mile since. He was 40/1 that afternoon and didn't shape too badly up in class/trip when finishing four-lengths seventh of 16.

The handicapper has eased him a pound and, back at 7f in this lower grade, Paul Hanagan's mount has the tools to be a major factor.

Wirko to win and each-way - BET NOW

The Chester Vase is down to six runners after the defections of Ballydoyle duo Sir Lamorak and San Martino. Aidan O'Brien now relies solely on Sandhurst, who could easily progress from his defeat in the Craven at Newmarket recently now that he goes up in trip.

Law Of The Sea for John Gosden is another possible improver but so, too, is Epsom's Classic Trial winner Wirko for Charlie Appleby and William Buick in the Godolphin first colours.

He needed every yard of the trip to get the verdict in that Listed race and looks the sort to improve over this distance again. The son of Kingman has won two of three starts and the way he handled the track at Epsom bodes very well coming here.

Lucy Lulu to win and each-way - BET NOW

The opener of the Boodles May Festival is a 5f dash and there's plenty of early speed angles with Devious Angel and Beauzon having made all to good effect in their recent wins. Armor was well-backed on debut at Doncaster 11 days ago and saw off three rivals with a minimum of fuss in a good time, while Richard Hannon's No Nay Never colt must be taken very seriously.

Lucy Lulu was also a debut winner at Doncaster as recently as Saturday. The Muhaarar filly went through her race in a professional manner considering it was her first day on the track and, while this is a quick turnaround and a step up in class, improvement is very likely from her.

Jason Hart takes over in the saddle and she's perhaps overpriced in this Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes.
