Sunday is another bumper day of action at Newmarket with the Qipco 1000 Guineas the main attraction, the opening fillies' Classic of the new season.

It's an eight-race feast at Headquarters and we've got our three best bets for Sunday's action at Newmarket (13:15-17:20).

Statement to win and each-way - BET NOW

The favourite Santa Barbara has only run once, winning a maiden in Ireland last season, and she'll need to be every bit as good as the recent hype suggests she might be to stare down these battle-hardened rivals and give Aidan O'Brien a fifth 1000 Guineas in six years. She could easily be good enough of course, but the price is spectacularly short for the evidence available.

Stablemate Mother Earth has achieved plenty more, as have Sacred, Alcohol Free, Saffron Beach, Fev Rover and Statement - the last-named a decent each-way shout.

All are place players but the selection is Martyn Meade's Lawman filly. She twice went close in good maidens last summer before opening her account at Newbury (6½f, heavy) in October and she improved significantly on comeback to be second of 17 behind Alcohol Free in the Nell Gwyn at the same venue.

Another stride or two would surely have got her up and, with the mile set to suit, in-form William Buick retains the ride here. Statement can improve again and is a solid place player in a race wide open behind the jolly.

Francesco Guardi to win - BET NOW

James Ferguson looks to have a smart prospect on his hands with this Frankel colt and he can make inroads this season at three years old. Francesco Guardi made a winning debut last season at Salisbury (7f, good to firm) and then ran third in a Newbury Listed race behind two very promising rivals (both subsequently placed in group races last season).

His final start resulted in an odds-on defeat at Yarmouth in September upped to a mile but that run is easily forgiven, Oisin Murphy's partner had jumped the path mid-race and almost come down in doing so.

An opening mark of 93 is no penalty kick for him but he may have pattern-race aspirations of his own in the months ahead and this looks a good starting point for him with the champion jockey on board again.

Guineas Festival Day 2 Prediction

A'shaari to win and each-way - BET NOW

The well-related A'shaari made a strong impression when coasting to victory in a 7f maiden on the July Course here last season on soft ground.

The Dubawi filly, a full-sister to dual Group 1 winner Wuheida, came with a strong challenge and readily put more than three lengths between herself and the chasing pack without really extending. The second won next time out, while the race has provided four more subsequent winners.

With Charlie Appleby's string in such good form (5-13 entering the weekend for 38 per-cent recent strike-rate) this filly is expected to be primed for the comeback run and can take this step up in class in her stride en route to better things in all probability.
