While the St Leger meeting continues at Doncaster, we have three tips from meetings away from Town Moor.
Mordin Win and Each-Way @ 5/1 – BET NOW
Trainer Simon Crisford’s Mordin was in good form earlier this season, winning twice in the spring, including over 1m2f on good-to-firm going at Yarmouth back in April. He followed that effort up with three good second placed finishes including when beaten a short-head over the same distance at Ayr in a competitive six runner contest in June.
Absent since finishing a disappointing thirteenth in a valuable handicap over an extended 1m2f at York (good-to-firm) the following month, this drop in trip shouldn’t inconvenience having won on the all-weather in a 1m novice contest in April. The break should also have freshened him up with that Kempton victory coming following a 119 day absence having won an eleven runner 1m maiden contest at Lingfield when making his debut in early December.
Remains unexposed and unbeaten in two starts over this 1m distance while the good ground forecast for this race is also in his favour.
Foxtrot Lady win @ 6/4 – BET NOW
The sole filly in the line-up for the concluding race of the day looks capable of registering her fourth success of 2018 in what should be a competitive small field affair.
The selection took a valuable 6f handicap at Newmarket on good-to-firm ground in July and while she wasn’t beaten by much in a valuable large field contest against her elders at Goodwood subsequently, she probably put in her best effort so far when narrowly beaten in a Listed contest at Pontefract (6f, good-to-firm) just under a month ago.
Having proved she is up to tackling weight-for-age affairs when runner-up in the aforementioned Pontefract contest, she looks likely to track the pace in this small field sprint contest while a further positive to her chances is the recent excellent form of trainer Andrew Balding, who comes into this contest with a 26% strike-rate (10/38) in recent weeks.
Goodnightgodbless win and each - BET NOW
The lightly-raced Goodnightgodbless can record a second career success by taking this competitive staying handicap hurdle.
The selection broke her maiden when taking a similar race to this on good ground at Tipperary back in May. Held up that day, and while a bad mistake arguably cost her a more impressive victory, she has run well on both subsequent outings with the first of those coming when finishing fourth over an extended 3m at Roscommon (good) early last month.
Her most recent outing came when staying on well to finish a length second in a 3m1f handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe (yielding) last month. The usual hold up tactics were employed on that occasion while the form is working out well with third-placed Se Mo Laoch winning at Kilbeggan subsequently.
While she is vulnerable to any mishaps in front of her while employing such tactics she has a top jockey booked to ride in Mark Walsh and looks capable of taking this competitive handicap hurdle stepping up in grade.
