So it’s time for the Grand National again and I have never known a more competitive renewal of this great race. Here are my thoughts on the third day of the Aintree Festival.
1.30 – Aintree – Although his finishing positions suggests otherwise, SPLASH OF GINGE ran a cracking race in the Supreme Novices Hurdle and he is worth a shot at this class in what looks a good renewal of the Mersey Novices Hurdle.
2.05 – Aintree – The more rain that falls during the morning the better for TRIFOLIUM, outpaced at a crucial stage of the Arkle Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. I make Hinterland the biggest danger stepping back into novice class.
2.50 – Aintree – This looks a below par staying hurdle and AT FISHER’S CROSS can take advantage of that. Connections will be hoping for a bit more rain to ease the going, but whatever the surface he looks a rightful favourite here.
BET NOW – AT FISHER’S CROSS
3.25 – Aintree – Old boy TRANQUIL SEA seems to have found a new lease of life since being sent over three miles and still looks well handicapped on bits and pieces of his old form. Strong staying top weight Unioniste is a danger.
4.15 – Aintree – A great renewal of this famous race and I think the best handicapped horse is BURTON PORT who showed more of his old self last time out at Newbury. The Rainbow Hunter has bounced up in the weights following his Doncaster win, but a breathing op may allow him to bridge that gap. The Package had a nice warm-up for this at Cheltenham, while Rocky Creek has been kept fresh for the big race.
