It's the flagship autumn meeting at Ascot on Saturday afternoon as they host British Champions Day.
Saturday Ascot Prediction
The six-race card at the Berkshire track (13.20-16.15) includes no fewer than four Group 1 events. The going is Soft, Heavy in places at the time of writing on what will be a testing afternoon.
Broome to win and each-way - BET NOW
Stradivarius is the star attraction in the Long Distance Cup and will be expected to win this race for a second time. He's got outstanding claims and his wide-margin Gold Cup win here in June showed he's right at home on testing ground. He has, however, twice been beaten in three attempts at this end of season target.
This comes soon after a below par showing in the Arc and maybe he is more vulnerable now.
Search For A Song is the obvious alternative but he's untested on this sort of ground and there might be some value in the returning Broome for Aidan O'Brien and Colin Keane. The latter is picking up plenty of winners for Ballydoyle in Ireland and this four-year-old son of Galileo could have a say if he sees out the distance.
He gave an eight-length beating to re-opposing stablemate Sovereign on his seasonal bow last term at Leopardstown on soft ground to win a Group 3 and so the fact he comes here fresh is not a big worry. He ran a fair race in the Coronation Cup at Newmarket on his only outing this term and, with many of this field unproven on the ground, he has an edge there.
Art Power to win and each-way - BET NOW
A return to this track might be just what is required for Art Power, the Andrew Balding-trained three-year-old having delivered a sparkling performance when winning in handicap company over 5f at the Royal meeting in June.
That promise was built on with a stylish Group 3 win in Ireland afterwards on soft ground before the Dark Angel colt failed to live up to expectations in the Nunthorpe at York.
He's since run an improved race in Haydock's Sprint Cup when fourth behind the re-opposing winner Dream Of Dreams.
That rival sets the standard while July Cup champion Oxted is also in the picture having undergone a wind operation since. However, Art Power still appeals as being a work in progress and he should be in the shake-up at an each-way price.
Palace Pier to win and each-way - BET NOW
The unbeaten miler Palace Pier can take the QEII to continue a hugely impressive and progressive campaign for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.
It began with a straightforward all-weather win at Newcastle in June before he showed his class in seeing off the likes of Pinatubo and Wichita in a cracking renewal of the St James's Palace Stakes at the Royal Meeting here in June; his first taste of Group 1 action.
He doubled his top-level tally in August, winning the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on heavy ground, which bodes well for this assignment. Even allowing for facing some smart older rivals, Palace Pier is expected to come out on top.
